Phum on the Radio?

I was listening to a a streaming Radio station -Absolute Radio London - In one hour I heard two adverts for Betfair - This station seems to be a mainline music station - I can't recall when last I heard any adverts for Phumelela on my local radio (702) - I have heard a few adverts for a Cape on-line bookmaker though - Why does Phum shy away from advertising? Do they not realsise that promoting your brand is paramount for success - I would think that the drop in turnover on UK racing would have taught them that "out of sight is out of mind"
I am always amazed when I meet people and Racing comes up and they say they had no idea Racing actually still exists - For the majority of people Racing is the July And Met so if you don't put yourself out there how will people know? The famous line by Kevin Kostner in that baseball movie " If you build it they(he) will come" is a fairytale - All you have to do is TELL people that Racing is alive and well and that it is a leisure option - Hoping that the aging audience will keep racing going is naive -

by now forget about advertising,,they should be having their own radio service 24/7...with racing and sports...imagine driving to jhb from durban...and to have a racing radio on...surely their turnover would improve

perhaps turnover would improve BUT only Racing people would use that station - Mainstream is the only way to legitimize Racing - If you keep it hidden then people will continue to think it's a game for insiders only - Remember the OK Gold Bowl and the scratch cards? That campaign brought Racing to the masses - Phumelela seem happy to keep advertising and sponsorship in the "family" rather than breaking out and getting new interest - A private party can only go on for so long before it collapses from boredom
