Ok OtA, I understand you mean this from a financial point of view.

I thought a box was 50K, but ok lets say 60K. I think there should be roundabout 60 meetings at turffontein (this incl. nightmeetings). Therefore, the cost of a box is R 1,000 per meeting. If you have 15 people in your box this is R 66 per person.

For the buffet downstairs you pay R 140.00 per person. In other words you can spend another R 74.00 on food and the cost per person is the same as going to the buffet. However, in this case you are in your own box, on your own nice chair, paying half the price for your drinks etc.

To give you another example, I am taking my clients to Summer Cup day. To sit on the deck, having food and drinks, cost me R 995 per person. 20 clients (2 tables) means almost R20,000. I could save some money here with a box.....

So even from a financial point of view, I can understand these owners....

On the other hand Clare does us the best chicken pie ever, we get one for the guests and one for Zoro every time we race.

Dave that`s what i mentioned on another thread the other day

it`s far more affordable to go racing in SAF than in the UK for the average man

Bob, I think that is the case in SA sport as well. The test on Saturday against the AB's costs R450 to R650 so you are looking at between 25 to 36 Pounds. My old man is going to the RWC next year and is looking at paying either 130 or 195 pounds for a ticket for the SA vs Scotland match, and those are still not the most expensive tickets.

We are blessed to be able to watch World Class Sport at an affordable price in SA.

it must be great to race in a box as if there are 20 of you, you tend to back the same horses because one of the guys have been given a tip or two so I can imagine the wild celebrations in the box when the horse comes up. If I went to the course and had a choice then it would be a box for me and that's just for the atmosphere (forget the sit down lunch just give me a couple of toasted sarnies and lets make some money)

You are right I can take my shoes off ( bad feet ) the hardest worker is the barman and gets well looked after.
The vibe and change of notes is great and the flow of visitors from other owners, trainers and the jocks normally end up popping in for late drinks etc
When we get a win we are normally all on !

That's about the gist of it - and unfortunately I can't afford even a Toyota :(

If i was Dave i would be rightly pissed by this thread. the box has been at great expense furnished and kitted out for when people race. the box is always made available and when ever i have been the vibe has been electric. George Dave and John do more for racing in the box on race days than anything happening in the RA box. i have seen some basic intro' at the box turn into serious relationships.

60 k for 12 months might be steep for turfies but it is money well spent if u have a view of getting new blood into racing.

Trainers, breeders , bookies to entertain owners , customers , punters. 60k not a big number for 12 months.

I am getting rightly pissed at people who cannot comprehend what is written. My post has got nothing to do with Dave's box. Reading his kind acknowledgement of what my point is about, I think Dave understands that I have not attacked him nor anyone else who leases a box.
