Thank you Harris. much appreciated. Pirates I don't think they would do anything. This is my problem. The funny thing is he even said he was going to F... me up. What is he bringing his mates again? That would be the only way. The arrogance of it was what really annoyed me. As I said Tony saw it all and spoke to him and told him he was wrong and should apologise but nothing. Too arrogant.

I have very little experience around horses physically ,so ,although scared to ask, my curiosity has got the better of me.
I am trying to understand the outrage of a riding crop being thrown at the hide of a horse, and yet, if said person(or any other) had been riding the horse a week later, would probably have struck the horses with the same weapon 10x as much and twice as hard??
Is it more the attitude of the individual which is irking, rather than the unacceptable cruelty?????

Rob, I have had a horse (a baby) that was spooked (no idea what caused it) and ran through a wooden fence, which put pay to her career. The main reason is because the person on the animal is not expecting such a reaction and has little or no control over the situation.
Now for someone to purposely cause a highly strung animal to react in such a way can only lead to problems. While riding and hitting a horse on the rump/neck one would think the jock is in control of the horse at the time. You right in saying the crop wont cause harm but the reaction of the horse might well.

Neigh, I understand that point ,and that it is mostly a "bad attitude" problem .............he does seem particularly cocky!
..........just surprised at the level of the cruelty allegation!

.....Rob I have been around horses and some great horsemen in my youth and adolescent life....horses are sensitive flight animals and any unnecessary actions should be avoided in order not to spook them and cause them to take flight( run away at great speed)....they also have superb peripheral vision but are not really able to identify which object is been thrown at them be it a rock, stick, crop dead bird etc....the movement and noise(almost forgot they have very keen hearing too) of a potential threat will make them want to run and take flight...the more seasoned horses become the less skittish they are......But a true horseman should know this and it is unsporting to throw objects and behave in such a manner....

RF, neigh is right. When in a race a jockey hits the horse he is control but when a horse is walking quietly back to its ring from work, the last thing it expects is to be hit by an object thrown at it. It is not the cruelty aspect at all as it probably hardly hurt the filly but the surprise at suddenly being hit that could give her a fright and bolt off and get hurt. The last thing the appie on top expects is the filly to suddenly get a fright and run after she has walked quietly for the last 300m. He would not be ready for it and could fall off and get hurt.

Craig,I get that................so it is an irresponsible action that could have had serious consequences...............as I said ,not surprising with his attitude!

Yes he did. It would have cost me a couple of grand if I hit him so thought that it was not worth it.

craig it could cost you a lot more if he decides to sue you for defamation of character and loss of earnings..unless you lodge an official complaintand there is an official inquiry then this scenario could become a reality

Pirates he can do whatever he wants. I have witness's and the truth behind me. I am sure I could counter sue him if he went that way. The filly is owned by an Advocate so he better think twice. He cannot win. The truth will prevail.

go find a job that he likes and stay away from horses .
Its disgusting and unacceptable the way so many of these most magnificent beasts are treated at the training yards ???
Give up with the dramatics and your OTT comments.......you clearly don't know what you are talking about....
