South africa scoring own goals with crime

A small moan and groan session.
In the last three months in I have been involved in launching a start up venture in SA with the backing of Investors from US , Isreal and Taiwan.
Two Investors came out end July. One had there card cloned. which was OK but I got them to stay in the VAAL area to show them around the area. They got stuck in the CBD of Vereeniging for two hours due to roads being closed due to theft of cables resulting in roads flooding.
last week I had two people out from USA and Isreal
USA person rented vehicle cause I was a way. In sandton they blocked the Car remote and stole his laptop, passport and two test cellphones from the boot. Being USA citizen we got him sorted out with new passport document for travel but we needed to cancel important trips in SA and meeting to resolve the passport issue.
The guy from isreal need a sim card for his phone . took us two hours at the sandton Vodacom store to FICA or RICA whatever. when I got him to the place he was staying the cleaning staff had taken 50 dollars he had left in the room.
Fuking awesome week and I am telling them what a good place this is.

Crime aside, the admin in this place is terrible. A couple of months ago in London I bought a lyca sim card, 20 pounds air time and the transaction took less than a minute. Why do we have to Rica phones?. And then of course it cost my girlfriend more to SMS me from SA than it did for me to phone her for a few minutes. Sorry to hear about your investors.

This Rica thingy baffles me. When I was in London I walked into a shop, bought a cheap cellphone with simcard included and five pounds airtime. It all took a few minutes and they never cared where I came from.
But here, when I tried to get a cellphone for my aged aunt who had lost everything when her house burned down, they refused because she had no proof of residence. Sh!its.
