Being out of season in KZN the quality of horses competing here may have dropped, which is the norm for this time of year but racing from a punters point of view on the new Greyville polly has been remarkable, considering all the hype and negativity surrounding this track at first, the results will show that it has been a resounding success, with horses winning from any draw and holding their form remarkably well..as the stats will show, there has been 1 "disaster" meeting in over a month:
September
2nd: 10 races ~ 6 favorites won
19th: 9 Races ~ 5 favorites won and 2 2nd favorites
21st: 9 Races ~ 4 favorites won and 4 2nd favorites
23rd: 9 Races ~ 1 favorite won and 4 2nd favorites
October
3rd: 9 Races ~ 3 favorites won and 3 2nd favorites
5th: 9 Races ~ 4 favorites won and 1 2nd favorite
10th DISASTER!!
12th: 8 Races ~ 3 favorites won and 1 2nd favorite
Give everything but up!

T, do you think this is going to happen every year, for two months , only the poly track available for racing? SShhh while the grass grows !
Great all the fav won = resounding success !
Rubbish, I believe not all horses act on this surface and are forced into a holiday for two months of the year. Im going to tell my trainer I am only paying for 10 months in a year as my horse, that does'nt act on the poly, needs a two month holiday.

Neigh your point is a good one but clearly there are horses that not only act but relish the Polly surface and once the turf track reopens then I believe that the Greyville circuit will be the complete package and will serve KZN owners well...btw the Turf track is REALLY looking back to its best and I for one cant wait for the reopening ...

just a question...in zimbabwe,uk(DIVIDED SEASONS)...hong kong and the rest of the world..there are racing seasons....lets take zim for instance...how is the stabling fees worked out there....do the owners pay for the whole 12 months or just for the racing season...

neigh the meeting for the 24th October was meant to be the first full meeting back on greyville grass but this has been changed to 2 races on grass and 6 on the poly...as for your comment regarding horses not acting on the poly this is a major problem as the handicapper has seen it fit that the turf and poly surfaces are the same and therefore only one merit rating for both surfaces...but WE STILL HEAR ALL THE TRAINERS JOCKS AND PRESENTERS SAYING IF TAKES TO THE POLY BLAH BLAH...as iv said before I take my hat off to the owners who put up with the constant mediocrity

Poly is great for off season racing , should be binned the rest of the season

The problem is there is not enough tracks in KZN

RG you are quite right, but then you as an owner know these circumstances before-hand and make your choices accordingly.
Mix it up FFS !!

RG there are horses starving already, why would training a horse not be paid for during off seasons ? You can always move to a spelling farm etc

In the UK horses are turned out during off seasons to rest and freshen up, wether this is done by the trainers at the owners expense

But the poorer quality horses will just be trained throughout the year for the winter all weather season or dumped/retired/euthanised etc

the off season of around 8 to 9 months doesn't have to be boring if the barns that are empty and will be used for the raiders in the winter season are filled up by satellite yards of the top Gauteng and western cape trainers..this will bring in extra income as far as box rentals are concerned and also much needed tote turnover from these satellite yards..it seems that racing is in such great shape that we can turn our backs on the income generated from rent and tote turnover...also the big brand names such as bass kanemeyer laird snaith ramsden etc along with famous colours such as marsh shirtliff etc bring much needed excitement to racing...

titch polytrack racing started in the 2nd week of june 2014 so could you please supply us with the stats from june and also what size the average field is because the chance of the top 2 favs winning in 6 and 7 horse fields is a lot greater than in 14 horse fields..i await your feedback
