It happens often in the place bet market. I wish they would make the tote odds two decimal places with a minimum payout of R1.05 but my plea will fall on deaf ears no doubt.

The lack of value, due to the significant margin of take-out,is exposed by form horses winning.
The tote unfortunately needs inconsistent running to disguise the lack of value!

Should not be allowed to happen

I agree. I am racking my brain to try recall a horse that has paid a Rand a win over the years and I honestly cannot. Even in the days of Wolf Power and Empress Club being ridiculously in the red I think R1.10 was the lowest I have seen previously.

In reality you should have been paid out even less than R1.00 only because the Tote guarantees a R1.00 place. This is not a charitable guarantee from the Tote but is sponsored by all the other runners - by giving you the R1.00 meant that other punters received even less than they should have from the other two placed runners! is that fair? (Guaranteeing R1.05 means even lower dividends for the others).

The real problem is the takeout from the Tote is too large!! And rounding down is also criminal.

mac we are talking about a win not a place. R1-00 a place we see every day. I cannot recall R1-00 the win

In all fairness guys, the tote CAN NOT guarantee you R 1,05 or R 1.10 a place.

Imagine if the big boys had a more than decent runner i.e. Pocket Power ..... 100 G on for a place to win back 5 or even 10 G in under 2 mins ....... not bad interest me thinks.

makes banking 10 % ( per ANNUM ) looks ludicrous

Durban Turf Club (Greyville)used to guarantee R1.10 a place until the clubs were dissolved!

I knew a couple of blokes who played the "easy money" game and all stubbed their toes in the long run!

Maybe the tote should outlawed? Must be against the law to back a horse to win money and not win any when it does ?
