Neigh I worked and raced on Poly in England. Those horses worked every day on the poly. Frankel probably worked every day on it.Since we have had rain here all the trainers have had basically all there horses working on the poly. I would say nearly a 1000 horses have worked on it every day when the sand was wet. Everyone worked on it and no one that I know said they would not work on it. Some are using the poly as an excuse when things do not go well. Trust me!

craig you state that the grass track at greyville was overused in the past could you please tell me what timespan this past is?i have the number of actual races held on this track since august 2012 until now and I can assure you if that is overused then my name is tom jones ,secondly you state you have proof about the clairwood track not being up to scratch was this over a 1 2 or 5 year period and secondly being under gold circle management why didn't they bring it up to standard then?did you take into consideration that the horses breaking down at clairwood could have broken down at greyville or scotsville or vice versa..you see craig I might be an idiot but neigh and tigershark are not so please refrain from the bullshit baffles brains scenario..

Tom Jones, I am not trying to bullshit anyone. I go on facts. They might have broken down elsewhere but they didn't. Even Greyville when everyone said it was so bad had less horses go wrong as per the reports.

Craig, you must have been in the mood for a discussion on the argumentative side when you posted this! I am sure you were well aware not all would entirely agree!

Bud, a question, and it might be one of my very stupid ones but, why are the fields in PE generally so much bigger than we are seeing at Greyville?

And never solely a grass meeting again??? HUGE mistake, huge huge huge, mammoth even!!!

I knew it would get people posting but when you are right, you are right. The members are happy but some posters on here are not. The poly was put in to be used and it will be. GC turnover has improved since there was an improvement in the bookmaker saga. by having 4 on the grass and say another 4 on the Poly it will help the grass. As Graham said yesterday, all the races at Greyville are on the same grass and that has been a problem. At Scottsville you can have 4 races down the straight and 4 on the inner tack and not use the same grass. The same can be done at Turffontein and Kenilworth.

Englander, it is of course wise to listen to oneself rather than customers..... that way you can always be right like GC.

Er... Craig, thanks for all that but it didn't answer my question...? ;)

And did anyone ask the punters whether they would be happy with that? Another genuine question as I for one, much prefer turf racing as you know, though I accept poly has its place and in some ways is almost certainly the inevitable future.

Hi Craig

Thanks for your very insightful opinions on the polytrack.

I don't know enough to get involved in the debate and I am sure that the guys that are taking you on have valid reasons to have a different opinion.

It is however refreshing to see you taking a stance when you have nothing to gain so I for one have no reason to doubt your opinion or intentions.

Wish you luck for the upcoming champion season. Hope your horses will do really well.

the gold circle members lets analyse them..about 1200 of them how many of them actually vote, then lets discuss how do you become a member of gold circle do you have to be an owner or can the car guard join?how much does each and every member put back into racing besides the 1000 rand membership per year which he joins so he can get tickets and a place to park on july day ...the majority of these members have never owned a leg of a horse and they have more perks than an owner who feeds horses every month but aint a gc member..is this fair?i have been to gold circle meetings and the average age is on the wrong side of 65 its like entering the home for the aged..it reminds me of Zimbabwe where Mugabe gets voted every year and everyone is pleased with the job he does..ja right..good luck neigh and ts hope it all comes right for you cheers

There is a time and place for everything poly/turf but when one has no choice thats my big gripe.(6 months now) The fact that this situation was caused by incompentent management of the the turf race courses over the years by GC, really has no bearing on the fact that all is well in GC country !? The poly has saved their bacon !?
I for one breed and race my horses to run on the poly ! Crap !! We all want/hope our babies aspire to MORE ! We live in hope.
Enough said !

I cannot wait for us to have an absolute downpour and have to move the races from Scottsville or the turf races to the poly track and then the people who run the poly down must not be hypocrites and must tell their trainers/ girlfriends to scratch. Lets see if they suddenly appreciate the money GC spent on the track and training track to keep us racing and not loosing the 7/8 meetings a year.
