My young horses will not run on the poly, no matter what. When a horse has reached its place in the ratings and you just want to keep it running then no problem but i for one will not allow my young horses to race on the poly.
Neigh, the whole poly/turf debacle has been brought on by poor track management from the time the second underground walk way started if not before. To now make comments that it makes sense to race 4 / 4 in disingenuous. I wonder when the Grade 1's are going to start on the poly?
Some girlfriends are very good trainers and they should never feel the need to appreciate what an operator does with punters money as it was never the operators money to start with.

10 years 6 months agomr eudey are you having a chirp at me?if so i don't have a problem with the poly but as I have stated before it is there as a back up not your main racing surface which it has become..it is clear that the greyville grass track is fcuked because you cannot have a full meeting onit anymore..in any case I don't fcuking own horses anymore so quite frankly I couldnt give a toss where you race ,, I stand by my statement the sale of clairwood was the beginning of the end of racing in natal ...Craig Eudey wrote: I cannot wait for us to have an absolute downpour and have to move the races from Scottsville or the turf races to the poly track and then the people who run the poly down must not be hypocrites and must tell their trainers/ girlfriends to scratch. Lets see if they suddenly appreciate the money GC spent on the track and training track to keep us racing and not loosing the 7/8 meetings a year.

Mr Witz, no one has said we cannot race a full meeting on the grass. The thinking is that if we spread the racing between the 2 surfaces, there will be less damage done to the grass and it will stay in better condition. It seems ludicrous to have the poly and not use it unless wet. Funnily enough one of the top guys in GC still says that the whole of Greyville should be poly. IMHO I am very happy he was over ruled. I like the thought of 2 surfaces to choose from. Tigershark, if your babies were trained here they would have been on the poly already.

They are not at Summerveld Craig and whoever said the whole of Greyville should be poly should re-consider being in racing as this to me is the most ludicrous idea but would be inline with some of the decisions taken in the recent past.

Tigershark I agree with you. Messing around with the biggest money spinner( The July) was not an option but some did want it!

Craig I have to say i am becoming increasingly baffled by this thread. I am not sure why you started it in truth. You keep repeating, and ignoring much of the asides, including my two questions, that what a superb thing the Greyville Poly is and how wonderful GC were for putting it in. Well, no-one is disputing that it is a good idea to have a Poly track, it has its place and it will serve its purpose. I do not remember a single person saying otherwise. So, what exactly is the point of this? the fact that my two questions were unanswered leads me towards believing that there is no good answer. As PE is comparatively seen as a minor centre, surely the number of runners they get there as opposed to KZN (and to some extent CT) must be a concern. Why don't they race twice a week in PE as it is there that they seem to have the most horses willing to run? And if the punters have not been consulted over what they want to see from KZN racing I would suggest to Mr Hawkins he does that pdq. In the UK I always got the impression that, unless there was an angle a punter could exploit, he would always prefer a bet on a grass race, even the mention of Poly would make some leave the bookies! You tell me a meeting is mixed and its appeal immediately plummets for me and I am sure there are others like me. It is also clear some owners have huge concerns. I would also suggest Mr Hawkins talks to these people directly, hears their concerns and acts upon them. No owners, no punters... no racing, but you will still have a lovely Polytrack...

Englander, I am going racing soon but I will get some facts and figures for you. This thread started about the members but was hijacked to have a go at the poly. All my owners that are members are very happy with the directors and the direction they have taken us. They say with age comes wisdom. Well as Pirates says, many of our members are on my side of 50 and more and know more about business than I(and many) ever will and they are happy and then so am I.

Craig, man, seriously?
I don't want facts and figures, I want all parties to have a voice and be heard. Is that so difficult? Sometimes, the one lone voice in 100 can be the correct one.

Craig please ask Graeme when the false rail will be printed in the official race card which is now the ComputaForm? I asked over 18 months ago and he said on Goody's show he would look into it but clearly he has lost his vision....

tiger you hit the nail on the head very early on this thread that unless you have a owners association and a person represents the owners on the board you will get stuffed over ..the two entitys that put money into the game being the owners and the punters have no OFFICIAL REPRESENTATION on the gold circle board now go figure that one out..
