Well done Brandon - this is exactly why I posted my previous thread saying I thought you had lost some of your sparkle. You are proving me wrong, now keep up the good work. A further kudos to Brandon is he labelled his 1st two winners and this will always keep the punters happy.

Brandon Lerena out for 3 months

Nicci Garner: Brandon Lerena will be out of action for at least the next three months after fracturing his T11 vertebra in a fall on the grass training track at Summerveld last week.

His wife Carla said: “The horse he was riding ducked one way at full gallop and he went the other. He landed on his feet but the jolt fractured the T11 vertebra and his spine is a bit compressed. Luckily it is a stable fracture.

“He does have to spend the next two months in a brace and it’ll be another month after that before he can start riding again. At least the prognosis for his career is good – it could have been worse. He’s very grateful it isn’t.”

Lerena, champion apprentice in SA in 2007/08, had been riding in Mauritius for Ricky Maingard this year, returning to South Africa earlier than anticipated at the end of July after winning 20 races from 94 rides. He had won nine races from his 119 mounts since his return.

“He was just starting to get back into the swing of things and was breaking back into Joburg. It’s just one of those things,” Carla said.
