So, let's see.

The major points on day 1 are (1) that the government determines what we can or cannot do with our money ie. no betting with overseas websites not licenced in SA and (2) that they're worried about the poorest of the poor, earning under R1000 p/m, betting online ie. exactly the people who have very little, if any, internet access.

Very interesting. imo the "poor" are not using laptops and punting on line, they are playing lotto and slots, which appears no problem!

The TV is full of online casino options and ads why don't they remove them?

Will read more detail later, but thanks to Brent and Johnny.

Sabre you are correct, thats the irony of the whole thing. Problem is there are too many different role players with too many agenda's and the regulators don't seem to have the muscle to make decisions one way or the other.

Government cannot tax foreign companies so they don't want us gambling with them. The regulators don't want to make decisions (other than on foreign companies) as any decision will affect their revenue stream. Gambling is a tax on the poor...

I cannot believe that they even associate On-line gambling and people earning less than a 1000 per month.

So, reading these posts, people residing in South Africa cannot have a foreign betting account? What about playing overseas lottos?

Strictly speaking also not allowed - got a definition of what is allowed (its not much) at the bottom of the article - that game directly off National Gambling Board website
