Gold Circle.

Forgive me if I'm wrong!
Utter Horse Shit.
Such a big organisation.
Planning a big nyt .
Few hundred thousand in stakes accumulated among all races..
No back up plan?
Want to get people into racing with such unreliability?
Haven't they Heard of GENERATORS! Even after this country has been swamped with power cuts.
Stand to be corrected but this is pathetic.

They have 2 huge generators here if I remember correctly but cannot light up all the huge amount if lights. They are used for emergency lightning. Not sure what size you would need to power everything here.

Craig
They will have to look at it urgently.
It's not a case of "how big" a generator would be needed.
Generators are used to power most of the high rise buildings on the beach front.

Craig what would the scenario be if the power went out in the middle of a race? The worst case scenario is something we dont want to have to contemplate. In my opinion night racing should be rescheduled to daylight until these issues are sorted

Eskom implore us to switch off our geysers and pool pumps to save electricity,
so why are they not asking for floodlights for all sports to be switched off. They
must use considerably more than my geyser.
Horse racing, crickets, soccer, etc can all be played in daylight.

Absolutely.......I know how much the floodlights at a home tennis court use and that is plenty .....can't imagine what pro sport and racing use!

Overtheair, those generators are connected to the system and although huge they cannot light up the whole course as normal and all the emergency lighting in the buildings etc. They come on in a fraction of a second and give the floodlights enough power to keep going and the horses and jockeys can easily see until the end of the race. No problem there at all.

To be fair Load-shedding and electrical problems are now so unpredictable and I'm sure many on here will attest that they are not 100% prepared for these events at their homes. Difficult times and the huge cost of generators to power all those lights cannot surely be justified unless we know for certain that Eskom will continue to cut every Friday evening at exactly the same time. I feel for GC and punters alike.
