Absolutely right. These days the big bookmakers will hardly ever lay a decent bet in their shops (and are becoming increasingly reluctant to do so online as well). Their staff are instructed to contact their 'traders' (who are really just betting exchange watchers) as soon as anyone tries to place a largish single bet and the traders will frequently either refuse the bet completely or only offer to lay a portion of it. The only way to get a decent amount on (if you have the time and inclination) is to go round to several shops placing smaller amounts which fall beneath their radar. If the UK Government banned FOBTs (Fixed Odds Betting Terminals, often referred to as the crack cocaine of gambling) from betting shops, it might actually force the High Street bookmakers to become bookmakers once more and start laying the sort of bets they used to. If it's any help, you'll get more on in a Paddy Power shop than you ever will with Hills, Coral, Betfred or even Ladbrokes, but, if you win, you won't be able to get it on with them for very long.

hills a 100 at 9/1 you can have 50 5 minutes later they have not changed the price wrote out 50 at 9/1you can have 25 left the shop going back to the car 1/2 hour later looked in still 9/1 had the other 25 therefore got a 9 for one eventually you couldn't make it up
