Garrick, I think it is possibly an entirely different scenario. Your bookie, is he an independent operator or a firm that we will find advertised on ABC?

Independent. Been around forever. Easy to find. Easy to do business with.

Maybe he won't offer you a 'monkey' to open an account but you WILL get on whatever you want to back.

I have been a client for over 20 years of a prominent Cape Town bookmaker.

He lays me whatever I want whenever I want it. Period. Often when I suspect he would rather have laid me nothing at all!

If you are wondering 'But how much?' then I'll tell you - on two long term events for 2015 he has laid me multiples that could could win me R5 million. (Every year I adjust my betting to take account of inflation whereas most punters I know bet the same stake they started with.....)

The rules are simple - He pays if I win & I pay when I lose. It's not rocket science or high finance.

I really don't know where you all manage to find those outlets where you are limited or knocked back. Perhaps it's because you show no loyalty to one provider?

But,are you a winning punter? Are you ahead after 20 years?
Talking about loyalty, how does bookie A know if your also betting with bookie B
Showing loyalty to one bookmaker who is 6/4,when bookie B is 9/4 is complete madness.
I've just backed a nag at 6/1 ew,when it was 4/1 in places,if it places at 6/1 I win,if it places at 4/1 I lose.
You have to seek out value at this game and have multiple accounts.

To answer your question :

I am ahead on sport (which now accounts for about 90% of my total punting & 100% of my big bets)

I 'fiddle' with horses for a little delusional fun; particularly in summer when there is no local rugby. I am well behind with horses over a lifetime. I use Interbet for horses only because I am betting in 'pennies' and because 90% of my horse betting is on UK racing.

There is absolutely no need to have multiple accounts in RSA because the industry here is more cartel then competition.

If I identify a large variance my bookmaker will almost always match that price. As most of my big action is long term there is seldom a range of pricing to evaluate.

Most importantly - this is NOT my business but my fun. I lost interest in 'stretches' long ago & really cannot expect a stretch when I am asking for R1 million of an event. I would rather be 'on' than congratulating myself on getting a monkey of a 'runner' at an inflated price.

Garrick, see if you can get 6/1 on Robin Thyme in last race at Leopardstown.4-20 uk time.
Then I will join and have a decent ew bet.
This will go close.

unfortunately there no independents left in Scotland the bigger firms have finished them off on Friday I asked Ladbrokes for 11 hundred to four was told 50 at the price they changed the price to 9/4 10 minutes later they changed it back to 11/4 on presenting another bet at the counter was told I had 50 on and that's all I was getting later on tried to have 100ew on a 7/1 shot was told 25 win no ew this was LADBROKES the biggest betting shop chain in b ritian used to get big betson 20 years ago now they have driven the independents oot the game the have a monopoly and they can do what they want
