I have it from a few Vaal Trainers that the chances of a hole in the track are almost zero - A piece of machinery called a "conditioner" is pulled over the racing surface after every race - this fills in holes and smooths the surface. There is more chance of a horse finding a hole on the grass where the divots have been filled than on the sand. My understanding is that this machine has a similar effect like the Zamboni Machine used for ice rinks.
Further the trainers have added that the sand is a horse friendly surface but many UNSOUND horses run on the sand as they battle on grass which gives these horses a chance at earning.
I was racing on this particular Thursday and saw track maintenance ongoing even after the
sun went down.

If I lose my horse because she put her foot in the hole I will take legal action against Phumelela/Gold Circle for the bad maintenance of the track.
