MAIDEN WINNERS NEXT TIME OUT
10 years 3 months ago
Had a look and as a rule most 3yo maidens get beaten in their next start. That is even if they
win at first start Does any body have statistics?
A first glance it would appear that the reason is that the MR given to these horses is to high
One sees a horse win with a MR of say 65 and a placed horse had a MR of 70 so the winner gets 72 But possibly the MR70 horse has run below his MR and the winner takes 3 months to get back to where he is competitive
Come on give me some input all you smart guys!

Maiden races are over rated full stop imo, in the uk poor horses dont hang around in maidens all their lives they get a mark from running in maidens then move on to poor handicaps (where they have more chance of winning and running well )
The problem with maidens horses are handicapped on potential sometimes and not the fact they have just beaten a handfull of honest battlers

Elmar, I agree that maiden winners get too high a MR after exiting the maidens. The good ones don't have a problem but the average ones battle until there ratings drop. Look at the lower rated MR races and you often see a maiden winner (in an average maiden race) has to give weight to hard knocking 3 and 4 time winners.
I see horses are now being hit much harder, it looks like the handicapper is trying to creep ratings up. Horses winning by small margins in MR races are getting 6-7 point increases and the horses running close behind them also getting 3-4 points increases.

Dave Horse Chestnut won as a 2yo and I believe that the handicappers often treat winner as if they are all champions
If a horse has had more than 6 unplaced runs unless he goes 2400 plus they never win except on a surface change ie sand
Horses that go to Flamingo may win due to the weak fields If they stay in JHB KZN or CT no chance
Even PE is difficult due to the Snaith and now Laing yards
