This is not right imvho

I have looked at the program for Champions day at the end of April, and if I were an owner or breeder I would not be happy at the way fillies are discriminated against in terms of the prize money and status on offer versus the equivalent colts races. The Derby is a Gr1 with a purse of 2 million. The Oaks is a GR1 with half the stakes on offer at a million. Worse is the Nursery races where the colts race for 1 million and gr1 status while the fillies race for a shameful 400000 and gr2 status. Surely to goodness fillies should be getting a far better deal? The top fillies will invariably be considered to run in the colts races but this is not fair and these races only come once in a horses career. ( I exclude the farcical bastardised Natal Oaks which has become a joke and embarrassment )

I am sure you have a point but also sure this would be the same for English Derby /Oaks
plus you did mention that the female sex can also go for the Derby and not vice versa
I will get Mrs S to give her views but at this moment is making me coffee and bacon rolls and don't want to disturb her on her day off.
We did go to see Michael Buble last night and not my choice (Paulo Natini) so sometimes the fairer sex make the call
ps show was superb

You took the words out of my mouth Dave. Fillies can go for the Derby.

Sure as I said the derby/nursery is an option BUT its a huge gamble - stakes or black type the choice. Running fourth means no black type. 40/50% of the colts equivalent stakes not on no matter what spin you put on it

The Grand Slam Tennis events is one of the few sports that offer the same prize money for mens and ladies winners.

Yip best of 3 sets for the ladies and best of 5 sets for the men. Same like the Kentucky Derby and Cape Derby winners, they getting the same status as the Epsom Derby winner for doing less work :P

Look at any given racecard on any day at any course. There will be races restricted to fillies and mares, but not vice versa . Fair?

I agree that there should be sex discrimination with purse money. If a filly wants to earn the colts prize then she must compete with the boys. The colts' purse must be bigger than the fillies's cos the colts are not allowed to race against the girls, a no brainer.
Furthermore, a filly's career extends much more than what 98% of the geldings, for breeding. Hate to think what happens to most of the geldings after their racig careers.

Guys I am not saying the prize money should be on par, what I am saying is it is disgraceful it is half and less.
