SUBJECT: EMPOWERMENT ACHIEVED AS PHUMELELA IMPROVES LEVEL 2 STATUS
Phumelela is proud to announce that following an independent B-BBEE audit
by Empowerdex (a highly reputable empowerment verification company in South
Africa) it has maintained its Level 2 Contributor status which was first
achieved in October of 2013, 14 months ahead of the Gambling Board’s target
date of 2015.
The Level 2 Contributor status, was achieved with increased points of
92/100 compared to the 85/100 achieved in 2013.
The Company reached a high level of points within the various categories of
the scorecard namely, Ownership, Management and Control, Employment Equity,
Skills Development, Preferential Procurement, Enterprise Development and
Socio-Economic Development. The greatest area of improvement was in
Preferential Procurement where scoring is almost 100%.
Phumelela Gaming employs approximately 2 000 people country-wide of whom
87% are black and 73% are female.
Lawrence Kopolo, HR Executive said: "The Company is proud of this great
achievement in the area of Black Economic Empowerment. Our objective is to
continue to meet the requirements of the Department of Trade and Industry's
Codes of Good Practice".
