Rising Sun Gold Challenge race day
10 years 1 month agoA fun-filled day of fashion, fun and thoroughbred racing at the highest level will provide an exciting mix of entertainment for the whole family at the Rising Sun Gold Challenge Racing Carnival at Greyville in Durban on Saturday, June 6.
Featuring the R1-million, Grade 1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, it is one of the most important race day of the year with the 1 600m clash attracting many Vodacom Durban July hopefuls bidding for a place in the 18-horse field for Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event.
The Rising Sun Community Newspaper Group is partnering with Gold Circle for the 12th year in staging this prestigious event that attracts some of the top horses from around the country. In continuing its policy of active community service, the Rotary Club of Chatsworth will be the beneficiary of the Group’s charity promotion.
As a family event that has always attracted great community support, a variety of entertainment has been planned for the day with live performances between races and a guest appearance by ZEE TV stars. Food stalls and a flea market will offer side line attractions and there will be plenty of prizes to be won.
A free-style dancing competition will be staged and The Great Gadsby theme for the fashion competition will certainly produce some stunning entries. The three categories in this competition are Students Designer Wear where student cards have to be produced, Professional Designer Wear and The Most Striking Couple.
The entertainment at Greyville will continue after the running of the last race and into the evening with a bhangra fusion.
It is going to be an exciting and entertaining day and you can make your bookings in the Durban View Restaurant at Greyville for the event by contacting Gail Klopper on 031-314-1780.

An exciting sea cruise, a motor car and a host of other prizes are up for grabs at the Rising Sun Gold Challenge Racing Carnival at Greyville in Durban on Saturday, June 6, where some of the country’s top horses will be making a final bid to earn a place in Africa’s greatest race, the R3.5-million, Grade 1 Vodacom Durban July.
The Rising Sun Community Newspaper group is once again joining forces with Gold Circle to stage this popular family occasion where exciting racing at Grade 1 level will be interspersed with a variety of high-class entertainment including the live appearance of the public’s favourite Zee Stars – Siddarth (Tavi Dubey) from Jamai Raja, Purab (Arjit Taneja) from Kum Kum Bhayga and Ishaan (Vibhay Roy) from Doli Armano Ki.
The Rising Sun ship cruise for two on the MSC, valued at R9 000, will be given to one on-course patron while one lucky person with the winning ticket in the Win-A-Car Competition will drive off in a stylish new car. In addition, a host of other prizes will be given away on the day.
The entertainment for the day will include “The Great Gadsby” fashion competition, a variety of performances including free-style dancing and food and flea market stalls. After the running of the last race an evening of entertainment has been arranged with a bhangra fusion.
The Rising Sun Carnival is traditionally a charity event with the proceeds this year going to the Rotary Club of Chatsworth so join the fun and support a worthy charity cause.
