Thank heavens for the humble PA - despite none of my 'taking a chance' fancies doing anything - doubling up in the last leg gave me a nice profit - some days are luckier than others

Rob I could believe the runs of Lady Casey and the Mdk horse the same race, last Casey actualky looked like she couldn't get her feet..
Royal rhumba didn't seem to be facing it early as well in an earlier race

Not good for me.

Lost R1080.00 (PA) and R600.00 other bookie bets etc

Yip - bit of a lucky dip at the moment - some sand specialists not finding it to their liking - others like Bold Approach, Lavender Landscape, and Breathless and Sway in the last did not seem to mind it at all

The Sand right now is very heavy. The lack of maintenance over the last 2 or 3 years has culminated in the fines being blown away when the course was neglected for 4 days out of 7. Many horses cannot handle the heavy going.
But, whilst I understand Rob ' s view on the Sand, the bottom line remains that our Turf tracks become rock hard in Winter and only a small percentage of the horses can handle that. The sand is then very good for horses like that.
Poly could also be a problem to "maintain" up here..... which is a worry.

For all the criticisms etc a complete idiot still found Yukon Gold and S'way, can't be as bad as some would seemingly have us believe then  get the course back to its former "glory" and there should be more consistency than at many turf tracks, as was the case for a prolonged period not eons ago. Added to which, I think there will be a fair few careers end if sand is done away with and the huge fields we get for the Greyville poly hardly inspire great confidence that racing will benefit much by the replacement of sand with poly. Vaal sand fields imo generally still show it definitely has a place in SA racing.

I was fairly vocal when previously a sand meeting was abondoned , and today my horse broke down on that selfsame sand (Braze the Magic broke her pelvis) Barend assure me she was 100% JP told Barend she gone down very well but into the race was pulled up and vet excamined -my concern is how many more animals are going to be put down on this course .It would be very interesting to get stats of where most horses get put down.Surely between PE Polly and Vaal sand it will be a close one.
