Unofficial Poll #3

Are you For OR Against the merging of P & GC?
I'm personally unsure.
IF done right, it could be the best thing for SA racing.
However it does need input from ALL sources, and that is where my doubt comes.

Would not be able to comment until I see facts! On paper it would be hard to merge a public and a private company! I dont know the law but is it alllowed?so buy buy buy as many shares as you can because if they do you will be rich the shares would more then double in value over night! Start buying now

Interesting question Jim. Personally speaking I think there are potential benefits from a consolidated approach but not uner P who have demonstrated historically that they are a gaming company who's interests are not best served by retaining the existing base of racecourses.

As someone who's main interest in in GC land, I am 100% against such a merger.
In the Gold Circle model, all "profits" belong to the sport of racing, and no dividends are paid to owners of shares. The main priority, before all others, is to exist for the sake and love of horseracing.
Once the business is sold to new owners like the P model, ultimately the bottom line is then to provide returns to investors. How does this help racing?
Racing in GC is far more secure than being owned by itself than by the Sanlams of the world. They would switch to radio car racing if it were more profitable, or sell what they can whenever the oppertunity arises.

Jack puts it in a nut-shell;
>The main priority, before all others, is to exist for the sake and love of horseracing.
Most of us know what Phumelela's main priority is.
Keep that wolf from the door !

A single operator is not good. Competition is always better as it keeps competitors honest.
I say NO to communism in horseracing.

Would Gold Circle be obliged to lower their present respectable standards of operation in the event of a merger ?
Does the racing industry really want or deserve any more of P's brand of mediocrity ?
