One of my friends said that a jockey has to retire at the age of 55 years.

Not sure if there is a retiring age,but like any sports peak fitness and eyesight etc starts to go in their 30`s early 40`s

Not uncommon for jockeys in the US to continue riding well into their sixties.

Wish the guys will give Karl some slack.I will rather have my money on him than some of these "supposed to be jocks"(nearly 40 years younger than him.Go Karl.

Piggot retired when he was 50,then made a comeback at 55.Even though he won a breeders cup race and guineas on Rodrigo De Triano,he struggled with energy levels and fitness.
He couldn't ride work all the time and most were happy to see him stop for he's own health.
Retired permanently at 60.
