RIVER JETEZ

Maybe I'm a bad judge - but was anyone else blown away by River Jetez's win ? Seems to have come on leaps and bounds. Could this one be a July contender ?

Impressive win over shorter trip. Always rated her, especially since a close up 4th behind Sun Classique over the July course and distance in June last year.
Could we have a brother/sister 1-2 in the July ?
Now that would be something !

She was impressive and perhaps only 90% ready, however she beat Sphalaphala guys. The runner up was 7.5kgs out with her and was also running over a distance way short of her best. Lets see...

Fair point 2 cents - but its not so much what she beat, but rather how she won. These were the comments on the bass website :
"Comments | Interviews : She was reasonably fit before she left for Durban two and half weeks ago, but has done very little work since. She had a week to recover and then it rained, so will be difficult to assess her level of fitness, but she may be able to get by with the little that she has done. 1500m is obviously on the short side for her, but we are using it as a prep run for Astrapak 1900. We don’t expect too much, but hopefully she will run well."
So, considering this (she sounds about 60% ready) - I think at 66/1, we would be hard pressed to find a better roughie.

Wd boet, now let's hope! Not a July winning run,but she still has scope as she wasn't ready yet today;maybe a place chance at best but at least we are on.Just not quite sure how Waichong will get down to 50kgs,but I think he is sure going to try by all accounts.

In the days of this race named the Republic Day Handicap ,it proved to be an excellent pointer to the July.....remember the Terrance Millard era. However in recent times the form of this race has not stood up in the July.I agree with 2 cents.....let's wait and see.

I've watched the race quite a few times now and for me the horse that made the biggest impression was Silver Mist. He was stone last in the straight and made up the most ground to finish 4th.
For that reason I have my doubts as to the strength of race. I don't think Pocket Power fans will be too worried. River Jetez did well to win but I think needs to improve many lengths to beat her brother...

Agreed, the form of this race does look like it won't stand up to the big guns, but the form in durban so far this season has been a bit topsy-turvy so who knows.Pocket Power still stands supreme in my book, but I was looking for a spook and River Jetez is it.Dreaming indeed, but maybe miracles do happen.Russian Sage looks a huge runner too.At the end of the day it is a handicap, and look how they finished last year,6 across the line within 1 length of each other. At least I have a big upside for a small investment, and Mike Bass is supreme when it comes to the big races.

Marwing was really on fire last night, congrats.Really feel for Kirsten/Randolph combo.so close yet so far.Catmandu used 2 be trained in kzn previously, what dramatic improvement.
Off the topic here, but i have noticed recently(perhaps with one eye),that W Marwing tries really hard and wins in Mdk dominated races.

Yes Marwing was on fire last night but do not start singing praises to quickly.
Lets see how consistent he can be.
