Robert Bloomberg takes up the cudgels for Bling
9 years 10 months ago
Last night I watched a wonderful documentary on S'manga Khumalo. It shows the adversary that this brilliant young man had to overcome to become champion jockey. There are many behind the scenes stories told involving the support received from various segments of the racing community. I was amazed to hear that Bling seriously contemplated quitting at one stage of his career. A must see for anyone who has an interest in our racing. There was one section of the documentary that really caught my attention. Bling received a two month suspension for pulling up one of Sean Tarrys horses - this is the opinion of the Jockey Club in any case. Bling was shafted by these guys and enlisted the help of the Ringer. This guy is nobodies fool and managed to get the case put on hold while it was placed on the High Court roll. Because of these actions Bling has become the first black jockey to win the title. Well done to him! What amazed me was the open contempt shown to the Jockey Club. In days gone by this would never have been allowed. Sean Tarry has handed in a statement saying that he changed his mind and now believes Bling is innocent and yet the Jockey Club will not withdraw the case. The ringer was quite clear that he held them in contempt and said that they would never win the case. A mysterious benefactor has committed to pay Blings legal fees, I have no doubt it is either Chris van Niekerk, Markus Jooste or Sean Tarry himself. I believe the Jockey Club should be disbanded and a proper Independant body take over its function.

The Ringer should know
............he was coerced into joining the NHA for a time ................I would guess frustration caused him to leave!

The NHRA controls racing, not the opinions of others.

Ironic but tarry a bit there, was it not the Tarry man who reported Bling to the stripes because of his ride on a 1st timer can't even remember the name, or how good it turned out ?

I would think that the mysterious benefactor may have played a role here. Its not difficult to follow the dots. Like most things regarding this "sport" there seems to be a price on everything. The question I have is why dont the Jockey Club drop the case if their "star witness" has recanted? I am told that lessons are being taught to certain remaining board members to show this faction who really controls the board. Recent departures within the board give this theory credence. Of course this is pure speculation on my part

Bling should get a few quid together and take them all the road, draw the case out and make sure it bankrupts them

Just an opinion ........lol..................but was amazed to hear that Muzi Yeni was charged with unprofessional riding for dropping his crop at Kimberly yesterday....................crops get dropped daily, and I might be missing something, but I have never heard of charges for that ...............are we getting different rules for different people.............or is this just the start of stricter regulation ...........hope its the latter!

Has any clanner watched the ride in the race under question?
Watch and watch again and then give your opinion
This is a jockey who is a stick merchant and has been fine many times for excessive
use of the whip Never touches the horse witch is flying over the last 100 metres
Very strange ride
Check

Elmer ,I didn't get the detail of which race .........which race was it?
Would like us all to have a look.
If you are right then I hope the NHA aren't avoiding the REAL issue!!!

I have watched the race several times and each time I laugh at the case as there is absolutely none..i have watched some races where it is so blatant that the jockey isn't trying my blind aunt could see it but zero gets done..just to add plenty horses give off their best without been hit by a whip in fact some will turn it up when the jock resorts to it..you get jockeys and you get jockeys who are horseman as well for example striker and fortune who know when to use the whip and when not to ..the whip is not the be all and and all

Reading through the changes and registrations and noticed that this has started to come up recently Rob. Personally I think it's pathetic, as you say it happens.
Can't remember which jock it was at the Vaal last week (I think it was Jaryd Penny) look at how he tried to hang onto his stick for dear life in a close finish. Lost all his momentum as opposed to just letting the stick go and driving the horse out to the line. He had to stop riding for a stride or two. Not saying it cost him the race (it might have) but in the back of his mind he probably thought he'd be fined for dropping his stick.
There's a big difference between dropping your stick on purpose 500m out and losing it in a close finish.
