Current 2 year olds
9 years 10 months ago
It would be interesting hearing what other ABC members have to say about the current lot of 2year olds who are now turning 3. In all my years in racing i think this seasons 2 year olds that we have seen must be the worst, obviously there are a couple that are good and above average, such form reversals. I think in the new im going to play to beat these now 3 year olds as they look very weak. normally this time of season i have lists of now turned 3 year olds to follow but not this year. Thats just my thought but very disapointed with what i have seen, bar a couple which is not enough.

You can't judge a crop when they are 2- many of the best ones will debut at 3. That said, I think that there are enough decent ones around, but no superstars yet.
Colts: Seventh Plain will get the Equus award, but may not be as effective over further. He is as good as Afrikaburn and Guinness from last year at the same stage. Saturday's race has some promising sorts, and the placed horses in the Gauteng Nursery are ok.
In CT we have a few promising ones- Ernie, Tar Heel, Prince of Thieves, Stonethrower etc. Recent debutants like Rodney and March On could be anything.
Fillies: Entisaar will get the Equus award- she is a very smart sprinter. Princess Royal did not perform up to her ability in Durban, but is very smart. Chestnut and Pearls is top class. Again, Saturday will reveal further improvement in the Tekwini amongst some decent fillies.
A very exciting prospect in CT is Purple Mountain. She has only had one run but looks special.
Certainly no need to worry yet about this crop- look forward to some great classic races next season.

This crop will be better than last year and have already beaten their elders in the lower ranks consistently, some following up on Maiden wins straight to handicaps.I'm sure there are "Big Horses" waiting in the wings. In the July there were no 3yr olds that placed in the first 4 as predicted by many(excuses have been made for some but it's in the books). The last time that happened was in 2008. There were also no older fillies in the July or Met so there is a major weakness with that sex over ground. There were also multiple winners of the major 3yr old colts races unlike previous years. I will back them to beat their elders especially in Maidens where they will be running against horses that have battled to win a race in their Classic season.
One I'll be following is ARABIAN BEAT

great topic and one that should be a sticky..i agree with mr h and today it will be interesting to see how redcarpet captain fares in a handicap with top weight as he ran 2nd in the group 1 gold medallion same course and distance ..the handicappers have been forced to give him a rating of a gross 101 and a net 86 and im sure all things being equal they will be watching this race with interest so they can rate the rest of the crop officially next week when they turn 3..

Hard to judge as so many are still standing in stables unraced.
Cape Town filled a field of 19 of which 14 were unraced and 1st and 2nd were unraced
Stories always of those who "can catch pigeons "
Hear a small stable has one the is as good as Horse Chestnut or Sea Cottage if you are older
Problem is where do they gallop it Not allowed to use Kenilworth so Durbanville only option
Sorry don't know name of stable!

Redcarpet Captain MR101 now looks wrong which is not unusual for a PLACED horse getting a high MR after a graded race I think the handicappers read too much into a horse that
places
Any opinions?
