Eish it looks like DRAKENSTEIN have pulled of a masterstroke ,another two big feature race wins for the the son of DANEHILL today R100 000 is an absolute bargain if this years results alone are anything to go on

Some big wins that i can remember

German Derby winner NUTAN (grade 1)

STAR OF SEVILLE who won the French Oaks ( sure they call it something else)

Big Orange who won a Grade 2 today and another a couple of weeks ago at Newmarket

SIMPLE VERSE who won a group 3 today at Goodwood

I think it’s fair to say that he has been a disappointment at stud here, given his race record, the price tag and the support with good mares from a top stud. If memory serves me correctly he was syndicated here at R600k per share, and an initial service fee of R80k.
Has made it into the top 20 SA stallions the past couple of seasons, but can’t be regarded as a top sire.
His progeny have shown a liking for the poly surface and a lot of his recent winners are in lower grade races on that surface.
Only 1 gr 1 winner ( Temple Grafin) and very few runners that compete at the highest level.

Was going to post what PeterD posted that Duke of Marmalade has only one Grade One winner in South Africa.

Interestingly, Duke of Marmalade and Al Mufti are related.

Al Mufti, dam the prolific, Lassie Dear, is Duke of Marmalade, third dam (great granddam).

Al Mufti sired numerous Grade 1 winners, like Arabian Lass, The Sheik, Al Nitak. He also sired future sire, Dubai Derby winner, Victory Moon. Al Mufti was also a great broodmare sire, with the likes of July winner and sire Bold Silvano. Lassie Dear and her dam, Weekend Special, till today through their generations of daughters and granddaughters are still producing Graded Stakes winners.

i for one was very excited by all the imports at drakenstein and flower alley to the oppenheimers not to mention all the galileos gloval view united states and the flag. if you look at the sires list it seems like jetmaster al mufti and silvano reign apart from gimme who is a bit of an out cross. interesting that rakeen is a half or something very close to halo who is the sireline of gimme. so seems nijinsky roberto and halo like the s a broodmare band. as david allen points out silvano has to be the most successful nijinsky line left on the planet as does captain al the best roberto. if the yanks are mr p and bold ruler the ozzie danehill and the uk sadlers wells then its quite interesting that we are building an outcross base in this country. heaven knows the irish are going to need it. this galileo danehill cross they are repeating ad infinitum cant last forever.

This week is the Dante Stakes and a previous winner Wings Of Desire by Pivotal is standing in South Africa.

Also Erupt, by Dubawi, a Grade 1 Winner in Europe and Canada, is standing in South Africa.
