So long as a team has a mathematical chance there is always hope. Problem with the Boks is that they don't learn by their mistakes. Is it the players or the coaching staff or maybe the opposing sides now know how to beat them because of their one dimensional play. I actually fear for them when they come up against Samoa on Saturday.

Hi Chicken, I think having 5 teams per group makes it so much easier for the big guns and so much more difficult for the lighties to go through to the next round. In the football if a lightie side flukes one game against a heavy they would have a real chance of qualifying for the next round. Unlike the rugby, the lightie side would probably have to fluke two matches - how can they fluke two (?) - and the heavy side just has to dust themselves off and go through the motions of the subsequent matches.

Good call on your forecast, you really nailed your b*lls to the mast :)

I have been reading all on the posts and find it most interesting however
lets not forget even no one likes the coach he is not on the field and if
the captain had brains he is in charge and should be able to change the game plan
if there was one to blame the players for not producing the goods.

However as you all know the bokke will bounce back and hope fully be in the semifinal against the all blacks

As tragic as the loss to Japan was, doesn't the result open up the possibility of SA finishing second in their group (much will hinge on result of SA, Samoa and Scotland matches against each other) and thus not playing NZ if they both get to the semi-final...when draw for World Cup was done, I found it hard to believe that most of the SH teams seemed likely to face each other if results went as expected whilst NH teams seemed to face each other...

NZ and Argentina in same group, SA and Samoa in same group...SA seemed likely to face Australia in quarter-final (if Australia finish second in their group - depends on result of match against England) and NZ in semi-final...with NH team likely to make it to the final by avoiding all of NZ, Aus and SA save for pool match between Aus and Eng...now those expectations seem to be on their head with SA loss to Japan...

Going to be an interesting tournament and even more so if SA finish second in their group...as matchups for knock-out matches change quite a bit...

One of the things that really caught my eye, was a simple thing that probably would not have had any impact on the result, but imo shows the attitude of a player. When the japs were on our line at the end of the game, the scrum had just been set, in the background you had Pollard set and ready to pounce in defence, and on the other hand, JP was standing still with his hands on his hips... Firstly, that is absolutely no where close to what I would expect from a seasoned pro who is ready to "die for their country" as was stipulated by our captain. 2ndly, it is in no means a good example to our youngsters. 3rdly it gives the supporters like me the impression that he feels he is doing us a favour rather than deserving to be there...
Are you living your life or waiting to die?

Interesting, maybe if SA finish 2nd they will meet England in the quarter final providing England win their pool.
