A Good sale for Varsfontein Stud
10 years 1 week ago
....this multi award winning stud famed for breeding top horses not only got the highest top 3 bid prices at the recent TBA/BSA National 2yr old sale at R1.1BAR, R900K and R850K .....but also 3 others above R200K....of only 13 lots were sold above R200K .....6 of them from Varsfontein Stud....the total draft of 16 lots with only 2 withdrawals sold for R4,475 000....at an average of R320k per lot.....Kudos to the Chairlady of the TBA for leading by example.....

.....but not a very good sale for many others....a multitude of withdrawals, not solds and vendor buybacks....saw a pityfull aggregate of a mere R20 627 000 of only 231 lots sold
.....Varsfontein sales contributed almost 23% of this total....but Varsvontein was represented by only 6% of the total lots sold

I thought Varsfontein's Captain Al that went for 850k was the best horse on the sale - surprised that it did not crack a million
How some breeders continue to plug on with some very moderate mares is beyond me

.....lack of under bidders from the other camp....the divide in sales houses is noticable....if it was not for the smaller repesentation of remaining Cape breeders the sale would not even have taken place.........shades of the NOW cancelled TBA RTR sale....which I am suprised has not got a mention here.....without Susan Rowett the TBA is out of business....
