Sure, its Mauritius' biggest race on the calendar - the Maiden Cup (dont know why they call it 'Maiden')

Mac actually amazing to see so many elder SAF bred horses still performing well on the Island. In SA it suits to retire them and sell the next batch at the sales

Bob, I used to follow a horse called Hillbrow as I pencilled him as the best cheapie at the NYS of his year. He won a race and Magner thought he was good enough to run in the Louis The King's classics. I'm pleased to to see that he has now won two-in-a-row on the island
. He runs in race 5 today taking on an ex Cape horse who has won his last six in a row!
As for Derek David, according to Winning Form's stats, he's riding like a demon leading the jockey list with a 25% winning strike rate and eleven wins from his last thirty. Those stats are reserved only for Superman.

Think I'll have a stab on ONE COOL DUDE for the Maiden Cup.
Has SA class; beaten fav last time; trainer Maingard is in form; runs fresh. Has a current price of 17/2 probably because he hasn't gone further than 1950m.

Hmmmmm....having experienced Mauritian racing from a local perspective I can only imagine that the 'rumour' mill would have run full steam after the running of this Maiden.....in the late 90s I made quite a few bob on this same race. Same stable as today, unfancied stable mate came in at long odds as his stable mate favourite ran nowhere....thought I'd gone back twenty years today !
