General comment, following Fayd'Herbe could be a profitable exercise or so I'm hoping. In the early races, 2 through to 5, Fayd'Herbe must have some fairly strong winning claims, and in some later races but for me, race 2 to 5 represent his best winning chances.

R2, Exclusive Knight, on the Paladin run should go close, having said that, they appeared to finish in a heap so it's difficult to know how good that form stands up. Drawn a lot better this time round, Exclusive Knight can prevail here.

R3, Arezzo, is down in class and should be cherry ripe. The big worry for me is the weight, 61.0kgs, and can he concede 11.0kgs to Mambo Square who is well in here with the claiming allowance. For me a two horse race and Fayd'Herbe should win it provided he does not let the appie get too far ahead, considering this run in is fairly short.

R4, of the three joint favourites, Mamselle Al, Pixelate and Bella's Empire, I feel Bella's Empire appears to have the most scope for improvement. Mamselle Al keeps finding one to beat her and has had 10 attempts at breaking out of the maiden ranks, so for me it's difficult to fancy her chances albeit she is very consistent. Pixelate appeared to be going backwards in her only effort beyond the 1000m sprint, granted she may have gone up the incorrect side of the track that day, maybe will appreciate further than the 1300m, so I'll play to beat her. Bella's Empire has run at the course and has improved with each start. I do make her the one they all have to beat.

R5, Star Express, for me, represents Fayd'Herbe's best winning chance on the day. Admittedly she has not run at Durbanville which can sometimes be a problem, but I think she is the class in the race and from draw 1, should take some stopping.

R7, I fancy Petty Officer, she is the class in the race and with the appie claiming 4.0kgs, she should go close here.

Break a leg Clan.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Its back to Durbanville, so course specialists must be respected, and draws are crucial.
Race 1. We have Twenty Four Carat running, and hopefully we can pick up some gold. He is working well and has a decent draw. First run this course, but has galloped here. His last two runs have been good. Glaxo has a good draw, and his second start was very good- the Rodney formline is strong. He will probably start favourite. These two should fight it out. Banker's delight poor second run after a good debut, and could be a factor with 4kg claim. Plenty of unraced runners so watch the betting on them.
Race 2. The top 5 have finished on top of each other behind Paladin and Cape Rebel. Exclusive Night gets the vote on consistency.
race 3. Tricky handicap -go wide in exotics. Mambo Square ew is the value play.
Race 4. Mamselle Al is the perennial bridesmaid, but she will get it right one day. Pixelate and Bella's Empire are on the up. Dictate good debut when slow away and should be running on strongly- she is the value pick.

Race 5. Star Express failed to justify favouritsm last time, but is a smart sort. Chisanyama improves every run, and has won at this course. These two should be too good here, with a slight preference for Chisanyama.
Race 6. Snaith has a strong hand and any of his 3 could win. Stratocruiser is overdue a win and is my narrow pick is a very tricky race.
Race 7. We have Goldandsilver running here. Her last few runs have been poor, but she has been working ok of late. She has a squeak if coming back to best. Competitive race, and many with chances- Petty Officer can be difficult, but is the class horse and has a 4kg claim and is the one to beat.
Race 8. Another F&M hcp to end the day. We have Dance in the Woods running- her recent form is poor, but she won her maiden at this course and has a nice draw. Frenni is the stable elect and a likely winner, but we could also be in the money. Entrechat has been given a high rating but could defy the handicapper. Just Rock N roll and Lucky Tuesday should be involved in the finish.

great little racecourse only hassle was negotiating the traffic back to the southern suburbs on a Wednesday when well inebriated. I was lucky enough to win a pick 6 there which paid R17k which was a lot of money in 1990 for the very small outlay of r8 I presented the ticket to the off tote inRacecourse road in Kenilworth on the Thursday, they took down my name etc and gave me a receipt. The next day I had to go into the offices at Kenilworth race course to pick up the cheque. Felt like a king walking into the bank to deposit. I suppose nowadays they keep 17k in the cashiers draw as petty cash

If only Greg, I have thrown in the towel where punting on horses are concerned, unless I really fancy something otherwise no bets. Tired of losing this summer
