Funny you say that Maestro, I almost posted something very similar on Monday's Bingo thread. Bingo had best be careful, it doesn't want/need these sort of comparisons...!

haha! downhill!
that's right, scale back the races to 7 or 8 per meeting like in the ol' days. Then add a barrier trial. And good press.

What totally gets my goat is that even as near as this weekend just gone past, on USO, a trainer (I cannot remember who) said on broadcast that its so hard to find a race for their babies cause the cape is just riddled with great horses.... I then thought to myself, if this was the case, why such small fields, and why only 8 races especially on weekend meetings..... Are the abundance of horses that can't get a run dissapearing into thin air?
I agree, fresh new blood needs to be introduced into the game, but the costs are just not viable, and its sad, cause the smaller honest stable trainers who work their asses off but never had the golden spoon suffer, not the big boys....
To end of, quote I heard from my mate before we sold our horse- "its a game for kings and C#*@'s...and I don't see no crown on your head"... Makes me wonder even more....

I find the timing of this notice interesting.
Racing is always much quieter in the winter months in the Western Cape. It's common knowledge that trainers wait for the spring to bring out their better horses, just as happens in Jhb.The best horses have just completed the winter season in Durban,so are resting.
Racing is at Durbanville, which has always had much smaller fields as many trainers have traditionally shunned it.
Suddenly in a month or two horses will be eliminated as fields reach maximum size.
There's too much 'power playing' going on behind the scenes.
As for people complaining about small owners and trainers being squeezed out, this is not known as 'The Sport Of Kings' for nothing.
For a short time in the 20th century the middle class had some sway in the ways of the world, but as global economies crash and the squeeze kicks in on the man in the street, the gap between rich and poor goes back to how it has been throughout human history.

Master plan been in place for years to get rid of poor trainers, poor owners and poor horses
There is 100`s of horses on farms that can be leased to trainers and syndicates

I cannot for life of me understand that the WC has the most Stud Farms, "Biggest buying power" at the sales, trainers with the biggest yards in the country, trainers that continually cry about space for their satellite yards and yet cannot field races with 12 horses in their own backyards.............
The WC also has the smallest local betting pool and without the national tote would have had to close their doors years ago.
Everyone understands that the best horses travel to different regions for the top races but the question must be asked, where are all the other horses racing? PE & DBN?
