Curley slams Cameron over refugee crisis
BY DAVID MILNES 3:03PM 22 SEP 2015
HE is best known for his legendary gambling exploits and as a serial charity-fundraiser but Barney Curley has now turned political campaigner by erecting a huge banner on his stud urging David Cameron to do more to help Syrian refugees.
The 75-year-old said he had put up the sign along the London Road near Newmarket because "someone has to make a stand".
The Prime Minister has pledged to take 20,000 refugees over the next five years to help with the crisis but Curley, who has volunteered to take refugees into his home at Cleveland House on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket when they start arriving from Syrian camps later this year, thinks that is not enough.
Curley said: "It's a national disgrace for David Cameron to be making a big deal over taking 20,000 refugees over five years, then taking that money off his foreign aid budget.
"This is a tragedy and when they come the refugees will certainly be welcome at my house. To see these six-month old babies dying is heartbreaking, especially when you remember that the greatest love is a woman's love for her child."
Originally from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, Curley has lived in England since 1982, something he says is significant. He added: "I suppose I'm a refugee of sorts and I now consider myself English in a sense. It's a wonderful country and I've been treated well notably when the excellent National Health Service saved my life. I'm doing my bit for these people that want to come. We're all human beings and someone has to make a stand."
Curley, who retired from training in 2013, has been helping the underprivileged in Zambia for nearly 20 years through his Direct Aid For Africa (DAFA) charity in which he has had the backing of some leading names in racing including Sheikh Mohammed.

It is in my opinion all very well to say let more in but I think that there are many Isis terrorists infiltrating into European countries under the guise of being refugees! I think you guys are going to have plenty of problem's in the future! The question is, is the humanitarian side of letting these "refugees" in of greater importance than the possible consequence 's of allowing in Isis members who are now in the country to cause violence, killing and destruction in your country?

Why dont the affluent Muslim countries like Saudi, UAE, Qatar, etc, take in refugees? Or why dont the refugees also seek refuge there? Many of these refugees are Muslim anyway? Just a q and observation from me, not stirring.

Because they haven't got NHS,free housing, free clothing, food vouchers, free heating and so on and so on.
Ironic really, they are fleeing to countries who they lambast for being morally wrong..
But,where are there woman and children? They all seem to be young men of fighting/enlisting age.
Uncle Albert would turn in he's grave.

TBH Dave i try and keep out of these things as i believe the same as Barney that it`s one world and there shouldnt be no borders..
But i have also noticed that these young guys that are fleeing certain death in their own nations are leaving their kids and wives and sisters behind..
But i also must say my favourite movies are the accopolitic type movies, zombies and world war 3,4,5 ,mad max esk and i quite fancy living that way

They had a very well educted refugee on a political debate show the other day and he admitted that he came to the UK because he thought he would be able to work and earn enough to give himself a better life .His plan was to work and send extra money back to his home country to support his family he left behind.( he admitted he came for the money)
He went on to add that what he thought he was coming to didnt exist, the streets are not paved with gold like everyone believes

Don't think any of the man-made borders / boundaries on Earth can be seen from outer space...
And no matter how we try to emphasise differences between people from different areas, the one commonality that will always exist is that we all have (the same) red blood flowing through our veins...
