It has been over 2 months since Mike Bass fell critically ill with Pneumonia and subsequent septic shock. He has been recovering and regaining his fitness at the Vincent Palotti Rehabilitation Center in Pinelands, but complications from the illness have taken a severe toll on his body, and recovery is going to be long and slow according to the medical staff.

The adrenaline and opioids administered to keep Mike alive during the critical stages of his illness have caused acute nerve damage to parts of his body namely his better, left leg and his lower abdomen.

Although his hard work and determination have seen him significantly improve in his overall strength, his legs are not yet able to function adequately and until such a point in time where they are able too, he will need to be wheelchair bound. The time frame, and to what extent he will recover, remain uncertain.

On a positive note, the hospital are looking to release him within 3 weeks where he will be able to return home and continue with his rehabilitation process locally.

Provisions are being made to the stables, and his home, to be able to cater for his needs, such as wheelchair access and a vernacular lift, which has been installed.

We all still remain positive and up beat that in time he will be able to make a full recovery, and we are really looking forward to having him back home and on the racetrack.
