Sunday l was told that Eviction would be in the top 3 if not win. Didnt do too badly. Will this race not come too soon tho? I am thinking Plain of Wisdom to get it right today then.. and of course who can ignore a Greef first timer even when the trainer says it will need the run, they have won in the past. Thoughts?

Can someone pls confirm- between Fortune or Danielson, who tends to ride more for the R Du Plessis yard? (Assuming they don't have a stable jock).

Thank you Royal P! Make it interesting in the 2nd of the day then. Minnakuta had a decent debut under danielson, yet he has chosen the new filly to the yard Petite Paramour who had a average 1st run at best @ Turf. Both coming back from breaks so both could need it, but maybe worth taking a small ew chance. On PP @ 14's?

Green Grass bred to run so could go in on debut
Princess Jane - ran here 5 days ago and should go close - rated as high as 77 in the Cape
Last Run
in the same race Minnacuta showed ability on debut and warrants respect
Last Run
Wild Night Out - I liked the last run - came on late and may prefer grass
Last Run
Captain's Slipper - did not have an easy passage penultimate start and may well do better this trip. Has a racing draw and has done well on grass.
Form Run
Nottinghamshire should really be 3 for 3 and he and KEMAL KAVUR should fight this out.
Form Run
Kemal Kavur Form Run
CRESCENDO must go back to last year when rated 91 - won a good race on grass at Clairwood . Showing winning form and perhaps a return to grass and the straight will suite. nice place and e/w bet - perhaps an exacta float field also.Respect Happy Lion in an open race.
Form Run
ENKIDU looks progressive - I thought Richard Strauss could earn too.

R1 Eviction made a decent debut last week and now gets Fortune up, though he showed some pace there the drop in d is something of a concern for me. It would not surprise me to see one of the debutants win but there is no stand-out for me given my limited knowledge in that dept. Shrik van Niks and Plain Of Wisdom were behind Eviction lto but can't be discounted. It is the other Sham runner though that I will chance here. Not sure what the jockey arrangements are with the Shams currently but it seemed to me JPVM had the best of the shuffle last week, by luck or skill I do not know. Anyway, he is up on Island Express who makes his local debut. Overlooking the last two (sand), some of his Gauteng turf form looks reasonable, particularly so if his last two turf runs were not from the best of draws. Poor form from other centres has often proved sufficient for a debut in PE so "reasonable" must give him a good chance, assuming the stable have him ready to go first time. Two at possibly bigger prices who I think might improve back to this d on the turf are Coxswain and Sun Never Sets, though neither seems the most consistent they have both put in fair efforts over this c/d, R2 and R1 e/w's.
R2 Continuing the theme of those new to these surroundings, Stunning Angel will be my main e/w selection, she made her PE debut lto running creditably over 1300. She has run on the sand and poly in her last 4 outings and may appreciate a return to turf and the shorter trip, her last effort over this trip in Gauteng, not the weakest of races though not the strongest either, has seen the four that finished in front of her win 5 of their 10 subsequent races, only twice running out of the top four. Blinkers go on. Al-Amadi's career has tailed away since a promising start but I still think this one has more ability than has been shown in some recent outings, whether that be down to the horse or other factors I am not always sure. Greeff is owner and trainer. At his best, rates a chance imo. Stablemate Natural Tan has had possible issues and may also go close here. Other stablemate, Hasty Kitten will get R1 e/w. Two others that might get involved for me are Jolene and Princess Jane but there are a couple of others lurking around who could win if games are afoot.
R3 Newcrest did appear to show some improvement lto while Wild Night Out has made late progress in both his starts and may find this distance more to his liking. He finished best of all lto following a slow start and maybe took time to get his mind on the job. On lines with Armorial there is little to choose between them though Newcrest is slightly worse off at the weights. Both have obvious claims, of the two I prefer WNO but am a little perplexed with the fact that Gould retains the ride while Khumalo rides Louche who looks well held here, though the comment is they are expecting improvement. For all that, they are short in the market so I will do small e/w's on a couple of others. Firstly Newcrest's stablemate Taketotask. Although Newcrest is the stable elect, TTT was only 0.55l behind WNO lto. Admittedly the latter was finishing the stronger but TTT raced three wide throughout and will be assisted by the 1 box here. I also have a suspicion that he may prefer the turf. Secondly, and my preference, is for Woodstock Express who represents the in form Sham stable. I think this one also has a preference for the grass and his last two efforts on the turf over 1600 weren't bad. Slight concern with the drop in trip but they have plenty of stable "lines" as to their chances.
R4 Spectacular Jet looks to have a good chance here, consistent form for the most part, could appreciate a return to the turf and Fortune up from a reasonable draw. Plenty of potential challengers, my two for small e/w's are, firstly, Gold Flight, who has not perhaps set the world alight of late but at the same time has not been a million miles off them despite some testing draws. He was well beaten by Western Wiu over 1600 on his last turf outing but he could prefer a drop back to 1400, decent draw and the appie allows him a very low mass to shoulder. The other is Power Wind who has reportedly been coughing in his last two but some of his prior turf form would give him something of a shout here with the stable going well, the stable comment implies he possibly may need it though. Captain's Slipper and, if breaking better, Western Wiu should be thereabouts at the finish.
R5 Great to have Tellytrack comments (on a very few runners) but with Simmering returning from an 18 week rest, when you really need to know if a horse is likely to need the run or is fit and raring to go... I'll stay with Zoo Biscuit who has been in good form of late in line with the stable's overall performance. Simmering if ready to go could be dangerous but one would have to think he might need it especially having reportedly finished lame lto. Dragonstone in the places.
R6 Nottinghamshire without confidence, a watch race.
R7 Plenty coming off a rest, new to yards etc so not a race I can have a whole lot of confidence about. Not going through it but... assuming a decent enough price, I will have a small e/w go on Captain Blackwater who was a little disappointing on the poly on his local debut but had some fair CT form on the turf and may appreciate coming back to that surface, a sentiment the yard possibly seems to support. I will also have a couple of rand on Island Fiesta, comes off a lengthy rest and makes local debut but some fair KZN form and could be competitive if ready. Al Don Cumarco and Happy Lion contenders.
R8 Same applies as with R7, too many uncertainties with rests, PE newbies etc and perhaps looks even tougher to pick one out so I'll stick with Turnstone who has done me well in the past, in form yard and should at least be competitive if fit and well. Ess El Kay R2 e/w and Ace Antonius R1 e/w.
Definitely betting more with hope than confidence tucked away in my back pocket. Looking for the Shams to have a mind-blowingly good day!
