Any Maths/ Stats guys?
9 years 7 months ago
I saw yesterday a letter posted on the site on the Sporting Post page as regards the budgets for races ie maiden plates for 2016 and one of the things I could not believe was that PE racing only gets 40% of what a maiden gets in Jhb.. Now added to that is the fact that there are an average of 12 meetings in Jhb a month vs 5 meetings in PE a month.
I can confidently tell you fees are nearly the same plus horse feed cost is the same plus vets charge the same in both Centres.
Can anyone maybe work out the available stakes between the Centres adding in the factor of the no of meetings and giving us a % factor of available stakes for say a maiden?
It would be much appreciated by a lot of owners!

Hi Oscar,
Unfortunately I don't have any stats to work on, but should no one be able to help, I would not mind offering my assistance in trying to acquire some digits. If no one has any figures for you, I will a spread sheet for a month, and then can give you some numbers.
I am not a maths fundi, but due to some spare time over the next couple months, I am more than willing to help.
Cheers
Kevin

Loopy is probably your man plus I am certain he has the programmer that could probably pull the info quite easily based on how his rating system is calculated.

The Shams have had 27 wins thus far this season and a total Stakes earning of R 1,591,400 whilst the closest comparision in Gauteng would be Lucky Houdalakis who has had 23 winners and total stake earnings of 1,729,350, so there is not really that much difference imo, the only time you will see a real discrepancy in earnings vs costs is if your horses compete successfully in the features in Gauteng (as was the case with the brilliant run of King Of Chaos) however as there can be little doubt that whilst some horses have the ability to pay their way in PE they would not be able do so in Gauteng the old adage "horses for courses" would certainly apply in this scenario..
Give everything but up!
