Thomas takes wrong course in Fakenham faux pas

GOLD CUP-winning rider Sam Thomas suffered a moment to forget at Fakenham as he took the wrong course on red-hot favourite Oumeyade.

The Paul Nicholls-trained 2-5 chance was in the lead going in front of the stands in the Light Dragoons Handicap Chase, but Thomas chartered a path on to the hurdles course by mistake.

He immediately realised his error and looked to the skies as he pulled his mount up.
The race eventually went to 11-1 chance Tipp Top, who just got home by a length from Log On Intersky.

Denis O'Regan was in trouble at the same course in January when he rode a finish too soon, with the stewards handing out a 14-day riding ban.
