MET 2016 ?
9 years 5 months ago - 9 years 5 months ago
Could now be very interesting after yesterday's race?
What are the betting changes and your views.
I think I will stick with Futura and any feedback on its under par performance

If I had a decent 3yr old colt that stayed I'd have a go at the Met

Discounting a runner's last race, irrespective of the result, is a strategy used by some punters. In light of recent results where losers have bounced back, Futura could still be the one? Is the mile too sharp for him now?

Re: MET 2016 ?
9 years 4 months agoOne for you one for me seems to be the way Futura and legislate have raced since moving to snaith so I think Futura will be ready on Met day. One also has to consider both are entires and could easily want skirts instead of cups soon.Mac wrote: Discounting a runner's last race, irrespective of the result, is a strategy used by some punters. Some interesting views expressed, so here's my take.....
Legislate was primed for the race, Futura was not.
Even taking into account that Futura was perhaps not tuned to perfection, he still ran a disappointing race - so does he have a niggle, or did he not have the best passage in the straight, or did he just have an off day
Yes, both are entires, but surely the plan for both is to be stallions - and maybe as soon as the end of this season?
I doubt if Legislate will go for the Met - will probably be allowed to recuperate fully from his recent injury - Jonathan Snaith stated on Saturday that they ideally would have wanted 2 more weeks with Legislated before the QP, so that's why I think they will take their time and go for a final push for glory with him in the KZN season - the Gold Challenge springs to mind.
As for Futura, any horse is allowed an off day, the question now is, is he good enough to reverse the form with Legal Eagle even if he returns to his best?
As for Captain America, I really think he is a miler - but why not go for the Met - he did run on nicely and he's got nothing to lose - most people expect him not to stay - so nothing to lose by trying imo
Then we have the 3yr olds - for me Black Arthur would be the one - he put up the fastest time of the races over 1800 on Saturday (taking the weights into account pretty much on par - time wise with Smart Call) - but he is from the same stable (different owners of course) as Futura. Noah from Goa ran an excellent race in the QP, but I don't think the stable believe he will stay 2000 - so I doubt very much if either of these will be among the final supplementary entries come Monday morning. So most likely no 3 yr old this year - but I agree it could have been interesting, especially coming in with 52 kg's.
Regarding Smart Call, I think she has now established herself (barring Siren's Call ?) as the best filly over distances from 1800 upwards - but still for me she would battle to match the males over 2000 - even taking into account that she will receive a 2.5 kg's sex allowance; still - as is the case with Captain America, she does not have much to lose and a lot to gain, so I would run her if she were mine.
For interest sake, these are my ratings for the top runners in the QP - would love to here some comments from the experts ....
Legal Eagle ................118
Legislate....................115
Noah from Goa...........112
Captain America.........112
Futura.......................110
Act of War.................109
Master Sabina............108
Gold Onyx.................108
Heartland...................106

I think the conditions on Saturday led to many horses just seeming more one paced And not able to catch the winners...Black Arthur was the exception and an extreme one.
Horses like Futura and Same Juristiction may just have found their races just not going their way so wouldn't be righting them off just yet.
However, as much as LE probably found everything going to suit him, nobody can argue that he was awesome, and showed the ratings he earned were not far off. Kenilworth 2000 will likely give a fair result, unlike the July , so even if the others run better races in the met, and I think a fair few will, LE will need not to be at his best for them to beat him. Exciting stuff.

Unless the owner is adamant French Navy won't run in the Met. Tarry only wants one runner and considering its quite a big owner I can see him trusting Tarry and going another path with French Navy.

If i owned (haha) New predator i would run him in the met . This horse would relish every inch of that 2000 trip . in fact i would do it from the front , start to finish, on collaterals with Noah from goa and the stamina he has in his genes the met is tailor made for him . Then put him away and go for the classic and the derby( you can make the derby trophy out to him from now ).

If you watch the replay again , Legal Eagle looked like he was just about to hit a flat spot but found a kick, incredible performance over 1600m my only worry in the Met is if this race took too much out of him and the same horse doesn't turn up .. Will be hard to beat in the Met especially if they throw one in to make the pace ( The Conglomerate )
