YEARLING SALES INFORMATION
9 years 4 months ago
I think that the marketing hype and all the information regarding the successful horses sold at the various Yearling Sales in the past is good to promote the sales however there really is never any full picture presented.
As a prospective buyer there is other information that I am looking for besides a "pay-off" line i just read for the CTS Yearling Sale, "If you could buy at only one sale this would be it".... If these companies have 5 years worth of information why are only the successes highlighted? Although showing only the successes is "normal" business practice i am sure the prospective buyers would like some other facts.
Herewith my list of information i would like to see from the companies selling yearlings:
1.Number of horses sold at e.g. 2011 Sale (Available)
2.Aggregate & Average (yes, these are already available)
3.Number of horses to race as at August 2015
4.Total earnings from horses raced
5.Average earnings per horse raced and average earning per runner
6.Group Winners & Group Placed (Available)
One can work out roughly the training cost etc. and then decide which of the sales present value in terms of potential group horses or just earnings per run balanced against some sort of cost....
I am sure that this kind of info would also be great for Stallions..... who knows Sarge mat be the best "value for money" sire around.....

I agree - trying to work out the best 'value' stallion around not always easy without the applicable info being readily available - not having the funds to 'buy the best', I have tried many times to come up with a 'sound' strategy pointing towards the 'value sires' ...............what I have found, is that there are quite a few and they differ from year to year...........on average I'd say that the difference in selling price vs earnings always favor the 'cheaper' horse .........for illustrative purposes .......... a sire's progeny that on average sells for 100k would have average earning potential (per year) of about 50k, while the progeny selling for 300k on average would have average earning potential (per year) of say around 80k .......so more 'value' in going for the 'cheaper' alternative
