CNN RETURNS TO MOTHER CITY TO COVER THE MILLION DOLLAR AND J&B
MET 2016
Date: 19 JANUARY 2016
The 2016 J&B Met will once again potentially reach millions of households around the world as a CNN International team is traveling to film the
event for the third year running.
This will be the 39th renewal of the longest standing sports sponsorship in the country, although the race dates as far back as 1876.
It has not only become Cape Town’s most prestigious horse race, but also the Mother City’s biggest annual social occasion, and integrally linked
with its rich racing history are the socialites and fashionistas who regard it as a must-attend event.
The CNN International team’s 2016 J&B Met review program will be aired on their horseracing program, The Winning Post, on Saturday 20 February at
1730 GMT.
The new host for the program is the acclaimed sports journalist and former professional pentathlon athlete Aly Vance (nee Rowell). In her
journalistic career to date she has interviewed such world-renowned sports stars as Tour de France-winning cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins, formula one
driver Jenson Button, Olympic gold medalist Sebastian Coe, England cricket captain Andrew Strauss and rugby World Cup-winning hero Jonny Wilkinson.
Vance’s experience in sports presenting and production includes expertise in horse racing, equestrian, triathlon and sailing.
As a professional athlete, Vance represented Great Britain in Modern Pentathlon and after graduating from Oxford University, she was part of the GB
Olympic squad in the build-up to Beijing in 2008.
She has also participated in international equestrian competitions, in eventing, and is still a keen rider.
She said: “I am thrilled to be joining CNN International’s ‘Winning Post’, a programme with an excellent and established reputation. I look forward
to telling the stories and going behind-the-scenes at many of the world’s most prestigious race meetings.”
CNN will be in town earlier this year in order to cover history in the making. Just recently, a partnership between Investec and Cape Thoroughbred
Sales, the Investec Day of Dreams 2016 which takes place this Saturday, is the first of a three year partnership which will bring Africa’s richest
thoroughbred horserace to the Western Cape.
Featured races on the day will be the Investec Cape Derby (Gr1), Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (Gr1) and then the big one, The CTS Million Dollar.
For the first time in South African thoroughbred history, owners can race for a staggering one million US dollars.
This year’s J&B Met takes place at its usual venue of Kenilworth racecourse on January 30.
