SNAITH - A WORLD RECORD PERHAPS?

Racing. It's a Rush
Subject: SNAITH - A WORLD RECORD - PERHAPS?

Western Cape Champion trainer Justin Snaith eclipsed his own South African
record when sending out eight winners in a meeting on Saturday and he did
it on Cape Town's biggest stage at the J&B Met meeting.

The former South African champion trainer had previously set a new South
African mark about two-and-a-half years ago when sending out seven winners
at Fairview's East Cape Derby meeting on 12 May 2013.

He has had five winners at the Met on two occasions and at the beginning of
this month had five winners at the L'Ormarin's Queen Plate meeting.
However, he had already smashed his personal Met day best by the halfway
mark of Saturday's 12-race meeting as he won the first six races, which
must surely be a South African single meeting record too.

He claimed the new South African meeting record of eight winners when
replacement jockey Heavelon Van der Hoven brought home hot favourite
Baritone to win the last race.
Van der Hoven had won the country's richest ever race the previous
Saturday, the CTS Million Dollar, as a replacement jockey, so is fast
acquiring the nickname "Super Sub."

Four of Snaith's eight winners were ridden by the record-breaking
5000-plus-career-winners jockey Piere Strydom, two were brought home by
chief stable jockey Barnard Fayd'Herbe, and S'Manga Khumalo and Van Der
Hoven each rode one apiece.

The wins included the Listed Sun International Summer Juvenile Stakes with
Sergeant Hardy (Khumalo) and the Gr 2 J&B Urban Honey Stayers with Ovidio
(Fayd'Herbe).
The yard's day was still tinged with some disappointment as their two big
guns Legislate and Futura could only manage 6th and 11th respectively in
the big one, the J&B Met.

However, the eight winners at a meeting might now lay claim to being South
Africa's most unbreakable horseracing record and might well be a world
record.
In 1990 Australian trainer David Hayes won six Group races on Derby day at
Flemington, a world record. It can be little coincidence that Justin Snaith
spent a year working under Hayes in 1994, which was the year Hayes won his
only Melbourne Cup with Jeune.

Snaith had 30 winners this January and pundits will also be searching the
archives to find out whether this is a record.

I have seen 12 race cards in USA, even 14 races at times.

Equus award winning journalist Michael Clower did some research and said he equalled the world thoroughbred racing record set by American trainer JC Williams at Waterford Park in West Virginia in 1979. Apparently Williams also had twelve chances that day.
