Fortune had a full go at the Fairview track manager saying the state of the poly was "pathetic" to race on.He maintains that absolutely no work was done since Friday.Isn't this state of affairs bringing racing into disrepute?Poor tracks make dicey racing! With questionable results.

Ps does he mean since fridays Galops? as Fridays racing was on Turf

The problem with our establishment's warped thinking ......................it won't be the track manager (or his manager) who is in trouble ................it will be Fortune for having the audacity to notice

Racing surfaces are going backwards, in general. Kimberley is going the same way as the Vaal Sand went. The drought will be blamed.
My only real objection to Poly has been that once it is installed, the Turf will become neglected or under utilised. This we have seen in KZN. In PE, we saw the Turf being ripped up by the stalls, as they were put on the Poly. This creates the impression that it is Ok to mess up Turf. Why worry, when we have the Poly to fall back on....
After 100 plus years of racing on Turf, with all of the experience and technology available to us in this modern era, we jump across to Poly as being the new Saviour. Should we not by now have perfected Turf maintenance ?
Back to Poly, it is a good substitute for Turf. But it is obviously not being maintained to standard. Similar to what happened to the Vaal Sand and is happening to the current Kimberley surface.
So, the moral of the story is that any and all surfaces need maintenance. Without it, they will deteriorate.
Good for Andrew for speaking up, but ultimately, he has a very high chance of incurring some wrath....
Somewhere, sometime, there must be many more like Andrew who are prepared to speak up and who won't buy the story that by speaking up, it is "bad for turnover"
And the ONE guarantee that u can have is that some Trainer will pipe up and counter Andrew ' s story by saying that the going was fine, there were no problems and that Andrew is overreacting.
Because that is the nature of Racing today.....And the single biggest obstacle to progress.

Sick and tired of sand, poly, sand.....poly/grass..... not just as a punter but as an owner....
KZN racing is a pile of crap poly racing, same old strugglers and fields oversubscribed for grass races

.....same old same old.....the operators management style is reactive and not proactive..... they will only react if and when these poly surfaces start to fail.....over used and under maintained surfaces deteriorate at a faster rate...clearly the racing programmes are done with little thought on when these surfaces are given a break to be refreshed with new substrates.....use it until it breaks down and then try fix it.....

Nonetheless we had to retire Money Grubber after he pulled up with a swollen joint.I received the dreaded call from the trainer and after the horse was checked in the morning the decision was taken ,then i read this thread, shot Andy.
