Over years of complaining about the management of the operators,it was often suggested that the stakeholders who relied on the industry, for their livelihood, should be the people bringing most pressure to bear,as one of the main losers is/was the stakes pool.
Those people continually defended the operators but the chickens are coming home to roost!
Whenever it was suggested that less punters=less stakes = less owners it was pooh poohed as exaggeration.
Is the MR system, which keeps giving horses reborn careers, not contributing to the problem of too many horses racing for too little stakes? ..................at least in the RF system, horses earned according to their ability ,met their place in the weights, and were retired, making way for younger up and coming horses to earn!
More horses necessitates programmes wider and more diverse to cater for the entire spectrum.

Its bad enough when somebody living in Joburg opens a thread having a go at Cape racing and then is backed up by others not living there but what takes the cake is when tweedle dee and tweedle dumb who could not point SA on a map prior to joining up with ABC have their say from thousands of miles away.

LoL, CnC,trust you to give this thread a completely different angle......
Cape racing.......is my fly open ?....... NO...... ok then I piss tomorrow. Sad but we really only have ourselves to blame. Apathetic is a word that comes to mind.

Bob, i can lease you a nice filly for your syndicate, so no capital outlay up front.
Golden Wine ( Windrush - Vintage Green ).
She was a buy- back from the recent Cape Ready To Run sale. Lot 135.
She is a tall, leggy filly, not a precocious type, but plenty of scope.
Can be viewed at Sorrento Stud , Agterpaarl.

Chicken
I dont know why you think you need to "save or defend cape town and its racing"
the facts are there for many to see over the last 30 years:
1: Vaalies (gautengers) have been fucking Cape Chicks chicks for years
2: After the holiday we can't wait to get back to the real world and city that carries the nation
3: The tote has for years demonstrated how the masses loathe Cape Racing, pools have been weaker than Gauteng and Kzn since Eve chowed the apple
4: Although Cape has produced champion racehorses the fact are MOST have come from other centres
5: The Cape Crawl is a long standing problem
6: The trainers refusing to race horse because of "poor draws" is pathetic
7: the course for NOT negating draw bias is even more pathetic
8: I scattered my best friends ashes on signal hill in 1997 that is the BEST thing in Cape Town.....

Funny that as we used to go to Joburg for the same thing except we did not have to pay for it

Here's another valid reason for the status quo:
Last weekend my betting turnover was about R50K. 100% on sport. Showed a small profit after an early minor setback.
Amount spent on racing? 0!
Why? Because, apart from needing to be Nostradamus to turn a profit (refer Turffontein Pick 6 on Saturday as an example of results), I am just not prepared to have at LEAST R10k(!) of my R50k confiscated up front as my contribution to the activity if I play on the Tote. For one afternoon? C'mon.
So racing can carry on plodding (sic) along with their antiquated business model without my 'mug' support. Cape Town or no Cape Town.
....and my latest (hopefully last) yearling purchase WILL continue to loiter on the farm and not see a racecourse before turning 3.

Just imagine the Met being run in P.E. I suppose it is not so absurd.
