T, why are we the only two (owners) vocal about this ? I know of many that arent happy but just accept it. The end result will be that they just disappear out of racing or move to a different centre. Very short-sighted of GC, the poly should be an alternative not the alpha and omega of racing which it is now. The turf courses need to be maintained properly and raced on.......not just for show.....and the season. How does a Natal trainer prep his better horses to be competitive during the season ? or are GC happy just to hand over the purse to the raiders and collect the take-out ? Bugger their loyal owners.......

Re : Syndicate Membership/Ownership
To be fair to all parties - where syndicates are concerned this is how I did it & how I believe it should be done:
For some years when I was still actually enamoured with SA racing I ran a number syndicates. Inevitably I was the nominee.
My responsibility was to look after the syndicate members. I interacted with the trainer, dealt with administrative duties, arranged tables when we had a runner etc., None of the syndicate members communicated with the trainer other than at the racecourse or if we had arranged a 'social' at the stable/s.
I sent out a monthly newsletter reporting on the well being and progress of our horses. In it I also educated members on the in's & out's of racing, betting etc. I charged each member R10 pm(!) for this function as the newsletters were posted and required a lot of effort to prepare.
We also only distributed stakes annually when we all got together for a memorable night out at a city restaurant where I also arranged the replay of the races where our horses had won. Everyone went home pickled & with a cheque.
Members committed to 4 year cycles but few, if any, ever renewed at the conclusion of their first 'contract term' despite every effort being made in advance to ensure that the activity would appeal to them & also ensuring that they were well informed at all times.
Racing is not for everyone. And nowadays only for a select few. I also learned that 'Mr/Mrs Everyman' is extremely risk averse and struggles to deal with setbacks and disappointment. Once you mix in the dubious levels of service and flavour it with some of the unsavoury incidents which pop up with monotonous regularity you quickly lose people you would like to attract.

Just my 2 cents worth
I am a new young owner 3 years ago started buying horses at one stage owned 5 horses outright down to just a couple . And would not even consider buying horses again. Never was in it for the money as I know you will be disappointed from the onset if that is your reason to get in the game. But its just the plain mindset of all the people in the business who thinks they are doing you a favour. I predict a tough time for this industry if it keeps on going like this....
PS : No money or No drugs can beat the feeling of a winner

neigh and ts its no use moaning about this situation every couple of months as gc have stated publicly via Hawkins that at least 50 percent of racing in natal will be on the polytrack so its TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT...if you or any other owners don't like it and discontinue having horses in natal they have the comfort of knowing there are many trainers from out of town who want to have satellite yards here so the fields of 12 runners will be filled to meet turnover needs...lets face it if they do open up the doors the quality of racing in this province will improve dramatically off season and turnover will increase so not such a bad option...yes local trainers will fall by the wayside and with them local breeders who fill these yards will also go with them but that's life

the amazing thing is when you don't renew your colours you would think somebody in the industry would contact you and try find out why as we all know without owners we have zero industry..but just like the operators treat their punters they couldn't give a fcuk

One thing to take note of, is this the R1300 includes all costs - so every vet expense is catered for; what it means is you are basically paying vet costs before the horse needs treatment; still fro a small (minute) owner like me, this has become the only affordable option
