Turffontein abandoned
9 years 2 months ago
Please note that following heavy downpours overnight at Turffontein and Vaal, we have exhausted all our options at both tracks. With the forecast for more heavy rain today, today's race meeting at Turffontein on the standside track dated 17th of March 2016 has unfortunately been abandoned.

The only reason you have exhausted "ALL your options" is because the "option" when deciding gautengs 5th track was another turf track rather than "all weather"........what a brilliant decision by the clowns that control the strategy of local racing!

Nice to have a day off from local racing. Will be fresh for tomorrow. If we raced less racing would not be so dull and boring.

Amen to that, Dave!
I naively switched on Tellytrack for the festival opener on Tuesday simply because my TV is 64" and my PC screen only 29". I was hoping to be able to watch on the bigger screen. Just as Race 1 was hotting up they split screens so that we could see some Epol candidate from the Vaal staggering to the start. Whatever. So it was back to the streaming.
Interesting that no effort is made by the operator to provide additional betting opportunities for Cheltenham. There is scope for all types of bets; not least a daily Pick 6. The scope for big dividends and carryovers should be right up their alley.
As they do not have to provide anything outside of the picture (which dramatically increases the ROI their betting on these meetings) you would have imagined they would try to promote major international meetings on which they simply piggyback.
Dream on.

In my opinion even a polytrack would not have saved racing today due to the heavy rainfall. The jocks would surely have objected. Sometimes things are just not meant to be and no one is to blame however convenient it would be to do so!

Damn, and I thought an all weather track would have a role in Gauteng .....silly me :woohoo:
OTA , an all weather track broadens the options ..........surely that is not in dispute!

Rob I am not against an all weather track however it is my belief that we would not have raced today even if one were in place.

Please Rob,don't give them any ideas.
Poly racing is totally boring,I'd rather we lose meetings and race on turf the rest of the time.
This is after all more than enough racing now that we race 364 days a year, bar a few lost meetings.
The last thing we need is Jhb having a poly taking 50% of Gauteng's annual meetings.
