The DTI strikes hard

My bookmaker has just told me that notice has been given to all bookmakers and both operators that betting on sports and numbers is to be outlawed. This will have a.massive effect on turnovers and profits.

Bob, i grew up playing dice(craps?) on the streets
Rummy at the shebeens
Like my beloved country everything will just go back to abnormal
And finally the Kings will have their horses and racing to themselves

Answer from a big bookie
Bill will be passed by DTI soon where tote has to pay a tax for offering Sports ... sa lotto no more for all bookmakers and bookmakers will pay a tax for offering open bet

There was a thread on this sometime back and this was inevitable -the only thing about bookmakers running lottos was surprising it took so long to shut down!
Lottos are licensed to fund charities and Administration cost take-outs are regulated!
A more fair contribution to sports /racing by tote/bookmakers is also surely a good thing!
Let's hope that both now give more focus to our love .....racing!

Bob my guy is saying that he has a memo that states quite clearly that the DTI is pushing for a complete ban on the tote accepting bets on either sports - and here it is particularly soccer focused apparently - and numbers on any lotto outcome not just the South African version.
He also states that Phumelela seem to have shot themselves in the foot by upsetting the PSL after agreements were in place for the inclusion of PSL matches in the various soccer permutation bets. The apparent unhappiness stems from the fact that monies were due in royalties to the PSL when a number of games ( the number given was 3 but I can't confirm this ) was included in perms. What has been happening is that the composition of perms has mainly only included 2 PSL matches when more contests were available to be included.

Also interesting ..............one of the bookmaker legal actions against the tote was a contention that Saftote were not licensed to provide sports betting.
"P" rejected it out of hand but it seems Bookmakers may well have been right.
You have to wonder at the efficacy of the legal advice that is given to "P".............they get a bloody nose at almost every turn!

Don't P and the ANC government have much in common...almost every decision taken by them leaves them with a bloodied nose when decided on by the courts and that deadly cocktail of arrogance coupled with ignorance results in them not knowing when to stop...
