All the best to owner Francois Van Ghent with his new purchase LET'S GO WEST in race 6. He only arrived a couple of weeks ago and hasn't done much work due to waterlogged tracks but he has settled in without a hitch and is doing well. Thanks to John Nel for sending him across in such fine condition. Media wonder-boy Lyle Hewitson gets the ride and takes 4kgs off.

im confused here which is very common for me..lets go west last raced 2nd march now its 3 weeks later and leon you say he has missed work due to the waterlogged tracks at summerveld..taking into consideration that summerveld has a poly track and the poly track can take any amounts of rain why hasn't he been worked on this track all the time seeing that his new trainer has said that the poly is much kinder than any other surface plus he races tonite on poly ..so really he should be right for tonites race ?but then you say he hasn't done much work

Suppose most horses no matter how far they trave will be given a few days to settle in (checked out) before being hurried into work?

Spot on Bob. He was given a few days to settle in. Pirates, when I say 'hasn't done much work'.. what I mean is he hasn't been driven forward with hard workouts. Hard building work wasn't the plan anyway as this race came up so soon. The poly has its place and gets used plenty, but with heavy rain there are issues possibly related how the track is harrowed. Sometimes it is rock hard and other times there's a fluffed up layer which has a slip factor to it. Neither are worth risking at high speed imo.

Pirates after giving him time to settle in he did not have exactly what was planned due to the rain etc. He is well but it was not a perfect prep to this race. Not often that any horse has an absolutely perfect prep for any race with all the factors that can change things. He will run well.

Following the debate (above), could it be a matter of Work Ethic

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Re: Greyville Good Friday
9 years 2 months agoThis is a screen grab of Let's Go West's gallop on the 19th March. It is the archetypal pace workout on the top sand track at Summerveld and trainers generally send their horses (in full work) to perform this up to 3x times a week irrespective of which track is used. Let's Go West's in-running and recovery heart rate (redline) in relation to his speed (blue line) is exemplary - he handled the work to perfection and considering his performance at the races earlier this month he should still be right in the zone. He missed his final gallop this week and could've done one or two more this month but that's not going to be enough to stop him imo.

Leon, can you show that chart with a 'time' axis instead of distance??

I think with the riding sensation of the year on top,Silver Inspiration could go well.
12/1 in UK.
Your thoughts on that runner would be appreciated.
