What's your longest losing streak?

I've just broken my record. I've just come out of a 16 bet losing streak :ohmy: Sometimes I wonder why I persevere with this hobby... It can be very frustrating.

That's just a blip , I've went months without backing winners

Ps this why we are meant to have bankroll control to absorbe losses , hard but if you are strict runs like this happen

Why everybody wants to back a winner is besides me.I think its much smarter to back place bets.Internet are very generous with these odds.

10 days... that the PA was either lost or just got a %age back.
Even my vrou said to me that I sounded like a broken record....."got my money back"

We all have our ups and downs and I prefer to measure on a year to year basis and if I made a profit from Jan to Dec over the years and at this stage I have lost every year since I started punting at 15 at this stage I am looking at 50 yrs so not sure when my luck will change or time will run out?

Until you discipline yourself to have your biggest bets on the longest priced horses rather than the other way around you will probably always end up a long term loser.

A good example of this can be found in hurdle racing. With monotonous regularity you will encounter 'boat races' - ie where there are only two horses likely to win. Typically these will be priced up as follows:

Horse A - 8/10
Horse B - 5/2
Bar - 8/1+

In most instances one of the top two will win yet it is amazing how often horses at 8/10 or much shorter get rolled.

My usual play, therefore, is as follows:

I put R1000 on A to win R800.
I put R 700 on the second pin to win R1750

(The reason I don't put the full R800 on the second favourite is to leave a margin for deductions and a tiny 'consolation' win if the favourite actually arrives )

The profits are not huge but you tend to accumulate consistenly and, most importantly, gain in confidence.

Do this 3-4 times a day and you clear,say, R1500 per day. (Given the volume of UK racing you should get at least 3-4 opportunities per day ).

Do it 5 times a week and you make yourself R400k per annum on your recreational activity.

Unfortunately this does not work on SA or most flat racing. SA racing results are often just too bizarre to take seriously whilst the market is also often not an accurate indicator of likely outcome due to it being so thin.

Footnote - I use this method solely as a funding vehicle for sports betting; where my activities are substantially larger. My strategy is - 'Pennies on the nags. Pounds on sports'.

You are right Bob.I will try and help LD out.maybe he learns something aswell.He is always looking for ways to improve himself,so I'll lend a helping hand,without helping him
