Has a all time win rate of 27%.
The last 14 days he has a win rate of 10%.
I'm not sure of he's stats for the previous years at Meydaan richest race night, but he had one place from all of he's runners the other night.I remember he used to clean up in Dubai.
Has he not got the fire power at he's yard like previous years.

As I wrote on the Meydan thread MDK is probably a bit disappointed with this years Dubai carnival 10 wins ( not sure how many graded stakes ) numerically poor for him

But he did win a fortune in stakes on finals night sure over R30m , so more in one night than it takes to win a SA title with 200 winners

If i were MDK i would be planning to hand over the Local and Dubai operations to Junior. And probably set my sights on USA/OZ/EU or such.

His SA stats are still good just that Tarry/Snaith yards are becoming all conquering so his results little iffie this season.

The real issue is this : Almost without exception South African breds (despite the noise from local breeders & fans) are not particularly competitive at distances beyond a mile at the top level.

Mike would want to start sourcing his raw material at a yearling level from proven international sales in order to truly compete.

If you look back on his successes in the past it quickly becomes apparent that many of the horses that achieved success for him were not SA breds or alternatively 'hand me downs' from international sources.

It must be really hard with the quarantine laws regarding SA runners.
I'm not having a go at MDK,he is a top top trainer and has flown the SA flag well.
Just wondered if he's still getting the same class of animal sent to him.
How much did that 2nd win the other night ?wow
Do you think the quarantine rules will change anytime soon?

My concern is that MDK racing is less and less MDK training, which is fine except that as always if you want a job done properly, do it yourself. No doubt his staff are good, and Mikes talents are needed elsewhere ,but cant be easy with all the travelling to do the same job

DTF, there are always rumors flying around, but no change to date. What tickles me pink is if you have seen the photo of Alec and Smart Call on a training track in quaratine in Mauritius....wtf did this facility now come from ?

That's my take too............I think MdK is a genius ,but he can only be in one place at a time so how many horses are really getting trained by him, as such ,and how many by "branch managers"
If I had an average horse I would not pay a premium price just for the brand ............but if I had a champion, nowhere else I'd rather be!

.............And probably gathered funds for better facilities in Mauritius so long!
