Selection Criteria - Jockeys?
9 years 2 months ago
When making a selection, what kind of jockeys do you like. National leaders with high win percentages, even though they may be over bet sometimes or do you look at whether a jockeys riding style suites their ride, like closers or front runners. Are some apprentices worth their weight in gold? Let us know what you think.

I don't even look at which jockey is riding what at first... Once I have singled out the few that I like in the race (drop in MR, running on last start, receiving/giving weight, poorly drawn last few starts etc etc) (if there are more than one), then will look at stables/jock pairing... Ultimately I will generally go for the same jocks should they find themselves in my top few...
But at the end of the day, I do try find the better horse rather than look for the "better" jock.... Yes some jocks are better than others, but there is some who are very good, they just don't get the quality that some others get... Imo, the best horse (weighted / fitness) generally wins the race (unless the jock decides differently).....

Go watch Patel riding today, and tell me you wouldn't rather lose half a point of value backing a stone better jockey

Who is Patel? Hahahahaha..... Fortunately for me, he has never entered my top few hahaha.... But in seriousness, would you back Marcus on an unfit out at the weights runner or C Ngcobo on a fit in at the weights runner? I know where my money would go....

When Lyle Hewitson won on Blizzard belle the other day she needed his claim, probably wouldn't have won without it

Guiness and Brutal Force...
In the Pinnacle stakes race it was it's first run after a layoff and drifted alarmingly in the betting. In the Flying Championship it got supported but Brutal Force still finished ahead of it who was better off at the weights.

I would like to think Guiness is the better horseof the 2,troublesome thou.I think Mr Marcus picked the best ride. The best horse in a race isn't always the 1 with the best form,as we see this daily.
