ATR showed us the entire card from Greyville today. What i find strange is why are the owners, trainers and jockey of the winning horse interviewed AFTER the race. The race is gone, over, kaput. Why not interview a couple of trainers or owners BEFORE the race so that they can divulge to us the punter if they honestly believe that their horse has a chance. Just a rhetorical question.

Cnc, it has always been like that. Agree that it is better having interviews before the race than after.

On a separate note, there is too much of useless information being communicated but the important ones like jocks riding horses over the carded weight is withheld to most except the priveliged few. Plus 0.9kg is a lot more then 0.5kg but whats a few grams between mates

I agree that more information should be gleaned beforehand but we should not forget that punters and horse owners make the game. An interview afterwards is clearly for the benefit of owners and a way to provide recognition of the performance to owners, trainer and jockey.

If trainers/jockeys/owners were interviewed before the race it would take 2 hours to get through 1 race interview. We would also have to back 90% of the field in every race....

The horse worked very well at home so we are expecting a very big run.... :cheer:

During the last gallop it beat sea cottage and really hope it can bring this work to the track...

Must be put in all bets, even if its at the back end of quartets.....

Ignore the last few runs and look at the course and distance run it had.....3 years ago.. :)

This is definitely its last run, unless it finishes in the top 10....... :(

Don't forget its family were renowned stayers.........39 years ago....... :S

The last time I rode it I made a small mistake, which cost it 7th place.....

I asked for the ride, because I couldn't get any other ride............

We told all 12 owners' to be at the course today (helps with the drinks bill).. :silly: .

.....CM.....Classic.....very observant.....reminds me of a time when I backed a certain speedster on debut paying R85/win......trainer said in a prerace interview it would need the run and watch over more ground.....won by 5 lengths over the min distance 1000m and turned out to be the best sprinter he ever trained.....

I see you are as cynical as me .........lol :P
I started to post a reply earlier which said ,"If you want to know the value of info that is shared with the general public (or faceless forumites) ,google the term "rainbow ruse"............it explains it perfectly!

(a typical "rainbow ruse " comment ........"weather will be fine t'morrow, if it doesn't rain".......lol)

And on the other side of the coin every loser should have won but for the excuse given to the owner.

A few more taken off the internet...............

.25. “I wasn’t wearing the same shoes/hat/shirt as I was the last time he won!”

24. “We just had a terrible trip all the way around. If we had a better trip I think we definitely would have been third or second, and who knows maybe we win.”

23. “I should have known to stay off of him when I saw that the trainer wasn’t dressed up!”
22. “The jockey didn’t have him/her ready when the gate opened and he/she broke too late.”

21. “It was a conveyor belt out there, unless you went right to the front or were right there with the pace, you had no shot.”

20. “Early speed just wasn’t holding up today, if you were anywhere near the front you had no chance.

19. “The crowd around the paddock was too loud, it got him/her too worked up and this race was over for us before it started.”

18. “We got stopped dead in our tracks just when we were starting to make our move.”

17. “Someone was in my lucky spot when the race went off!”
16. “The others jocks just let the winner walk along out front; I don’t know what they were thinking. After that, I knew we were just running for second.”

15. “I don’t know what [insert opposing jockey] was thinking. If he runs the race to try to win instead of worrying about us, I think we have a different outcome.”

14. “The jockey moved too soon. This horse needs a target when he hits the stretch, when he’s all alone in front he gets to goofing around and loses his focus.”

13. “It was his fourth race in six months so he’s tired. We’ll be turning him out for the rest of the year.”

12. “The jockey never saw him coming.”

11. “The racetrack was too [insert sandy, cuppy, muddy, sloppy, dry, firm, soft] and he just never looked comfortable.”

10. “What are you going to do when you’re the big favorite? You have a big target on your back and you saw today what happens when they gang up on you.”

9. “His mind was on the mare in front of him in the paddock.”

8. “There’s a little something going around the barn. We thought he/she had gotten lucky and avoided it, but we’ll have him/her scoped and I wouldn’t be surprised if he/she has a cough tomorrow.”

7. “He’s not a speed horse, but he can’t be that far back either. I don’t know what [insert jockey name] was thinking.”

6. “I thought he/she ran well. You know this race was never the main target. We circled [insert future race] on the calendar months ago and this should set him/her up perfectly for our main goal.”

5. “He/she missed a few works because of weather/illness and we came up a little bit short.”

4. “The trainer said that he just needed the experience since he’s only made [insert number] of starts.”

3. “He ran huge in his last race and I thought he might regress a little bit, but he was training so well …”

2. “He really needs a race with a little more distance. This was just a bit too short for him; he galloped out in front.”

1. “We lost to a better horse today; I don’t make excuses but [insert extensive list of excuses] … “

........................... :P ...............Love excuse no 6.and 16.........

I stopped buying 2yr olds as soon as I realized I never found a precocious one ........I got so tired of hearing that I had a late maturing horse who needed time, but would be a very nice 3 or 4 yr old ...........any of mine that were useless at 2 ,were useless forever!.lol
