Worked very succesfully in Greyhound Racing for 90 years
Did the old Race Figure system not work the same way??

Interesting suggestion by De Kock was his example of Californi Chrome, who travelled 29 metres further than the field, and saying that "clown bloggers" (ABC) would object if it happened locally.
By his own admission,CC the best sand horse in the world and had enough ability in hand,so got away with it.
Aligning that to local racing, his comment leads me to one question .........if every jock who rode his horses travelled 29 (nearly 10 lengths) metres further than the field,,would he be happy? and how long would they last?
All his Group winners who won by less than a couple of lengths would probably have lost............ so using an exception to prove a rule is really strange TBH.
I think MdK is a great trainer but surprised at his logic!

Certainties, yes. I think the difference here is that I am viewing this from a punter's perspective whereas the view is posed by MDK from an owner's perspective. Yes, more horses would come out to win in turn and then get penalized, and more owner's would be rewarded. And for the good of the game - perhap's that is what's required. But from a punting point of view, what price to you think you will get on a horse that is clearly underated? Like applying the rules to the Nghtingale run to Bela Bela - Even with the limit she is grossly underated, take away her penalty altogether, put her in a handicap and you have a certainty that's a 1/10 bet.
Perhap's my initial statement was incomplete, but from a value point of view, it's best when you have a field that's carded to finish under a blanket on form and ratings, and them look to sift out the winner or a place that's a decent return for your stake.
What I meant was, studying form would be a nightmare to try and find a horse that the bookies don't already know is a certainty.

A knowledgeable and confident man is Mike de Kock, even though that may be the comment of a clown and a fool once posted here.
How can a minimum training fee ever work in a market economy where people compete through ability, experience and service. Any fee agreed would have to be a reasonable and then there could be any number of reasons a trainer would be willing to dip below, a bulk discount, or a bachelor starting out, or someone with means who doesnt need to start with a profit, or anything under the sun.
If the worry is minimum standards as may affect grooms, then make a condition that all trainers will be forced to follow; trainers could announce a minimum wage for grooms and the market will take care of the minimum fees.
If trainers really want a minimum fee, this would ensure it in a heart beat. But be sure, cos there will be no going back.

Still dont understand why he calls bloggers clowns because of criticism etc!
It seems to me that the racing industry feels they are the only industry in the whole who should be void to customer feedback. The punter is the customer technically.
Im sure every jockey trainer owner official etc feel the have a right to complain about government because they pay taxes? In the same way us punter feel we have the right to voice our opinion if we feel it was a kuk ride or whatever because we put our money in the game as much as they do.
No we dont think we can do better then the experts but we feel we have a right to comment on what happens in every race good or bad. If one walks into a restaurant and complains about the food does that mean he or she thinks they are better than the chef? I think not!
Funny how he says horse racing is not even regarded as a sport, if u want horse racing to be regarded as a sport in SA people in horse racing must expect comments and criticism from us clown bloggers just as our sportmen of this country get pounded day in day out!!!
The only reason people comment is because we are passionate about horseracing and we love the game.
Besides 99% of people on here and any other side for racing feel MDK is near immortal and i am one of those. But whether joking or not was a lil taken aback by the comment

Maybe it is because people make comments based on perception and not fact.
Below is my reply to a post in a different thread.
Magi responded to a post from Bob. And no I am not having a go at Magi, just using this as an example.

As pointed out on another thread, all persons within the industry believe they are the only ones entitled to an opinion......but you can bet, only the relatively smarter ones are at the top of the food chain, in each activity!
